dont have a date yet, but i was wondering if they make you remove acrylic nails for surgery?

i have them now, and im due for a nail refil soon. but if i have to have em off for surgery anyway, im not gonna waste the money, and im just gonna let them start popping off.

thanks :)

I dont know the answer but I know one of the ways to asess oxigenation is by monitoring the color under your nails. Some places require you to remove nail polish but I believe it depends on the doctor, hospital, etc.

My surgeon is the same way, but I am hoping they do not feel the same way about toe nail polish. My feet look horrible without something...

I was allowed to keep my toe nail varnish on, which if I'd known I'd have put on a fresh coat before surgery but didn't bother as I figured I'd soon be removing it!!angry.gif Needless to say I didn't feel up to doing it until ages after.

My surgeon requires NO MAKE UP,NO COLOGNE, NO NAIL POLISH, so I just figured no acrylic nails, and NO JEWERLY. I was like DANG how am I suppose to look good for surgery. I looked a hot mess. LOL.

I wore foundation and mascara and my nails were painted (both fingers and toes). I had socks on the entire time so I don't think toes would have mattered either way. My nails are natural and it was a pail color, but I didn't remove it and no one said anything. I was on the pulse/ox monitor (snaps on your finger) and it worked fine.

Funny you should ask that, I just had my pre-op call with the nurse at the hospital and she said that if I have acrylic nails that I only had to have 1 off so they can see the nail and put that finger clip thing on that finger to monitor your oxygen level and heart rate. She said that finger clip thingie doesn' t read it right over an acrylic nail.

Not sure on the acryllics, but I actually did a pedi the night before surgery thinking I wouldn't be able to bend over to do one afterwards. The poor nurse that had to remove my toenail polish :( ...it was one of the first things she did right after I was admitted, I felt so bad! It was for safety so I'm glad she did, but boy my toes are ugly without polish! I was only home for 2 days before I scheduled a mani and pedi at the salon!

I had emergency surgery for my kidney and my nails were on.....................

My thoughts are first ask your hospital, second if they can control it with the polish/acrylic/gel on in an emergency I don't think its an issue

I could be wrong.

I had to take mine off, and all nail polish off my toenails. In addition to that, I had to bathe in dial soap, no body spray, no lotion, no wash, Shampoo or conditioner, it was all dial soap, no deodorant, I was able to splash alcohol on my underarms. I had my surgery at a military hospital so least to say they're regulations are a little more stringent than others.

For my gallbladder surgery 8 months post-vsg, I didn't have to do any of that. Same surgeon too. It could be that gb surgery was short, like 1 hour, and my revision was going to be extensive and pretty lengthy, plus I'm a horrible surgical candidate so the least amount of issues they had monitoring my stats the better.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
