Calling all diet soda addicts

Recommended Posts

Hi All, Before my surgery I was a major diet soda addict I was drinking 3 liters a day and had been for 40 years. I have since my late teens issues with my tooth enamel it is dissolving. Since my surgery even though I stopped drinking diet soda it seems to have gotten worse. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Yes I had/have the same problem. I am 38 and have drank diet soda since I was 14 years old (so 24 years) and had to give it up once I had the surgery but my doctors office gave me a binder with information and it says to try to stay away from it at least for 3 months after surgery. I have done good so far and for the whole first month after surgery I didn't drink any diet soda but I do find myself having a sip here and there now but not consistantly. I have pretty much weaned myself from it but like I said I still have a sip so I don't feel like I am depriving myself completely. It takes awhile to break old bad habits. I am with ya, just keep at it and try not to go down the soda aisle when you go to the store. I try to avoid it all together.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
