Pregnancy weight gain

Recommended Posts

I will be 1 year out from VSG surgery in May and am now 15 weeks pregnant and very excited!! I was just wondering if anyone else was in the same spot and if so how is the eating and weight gain/loss going? I am terrified to gain, I know I am eating healthy for the baby and I have just gained 2 pounds this week... so I am a little freaked out even though I know I am growing a healthy baby. I just want to know if anyone else feels the same?

I'm 7w5d pregnant, and have seen a 3lb gain overnight. Logically, I know it's Water weight, BUT that didn't keep me from freaking out over it.

I can tell you that my ob wants me to gain 30lbs during the pregnancy, and I kind of giggled considering the calorie intake they want to me get in is the same amounts I've been eating for a year in maintenance.

I lurk on the pregnancy after WLS on obesityhelp.com a lot, and have been for a year. The only patients that I see struggling with losing pregnancy weight are band patients, and RNY patients that weren't at goal when they got pregnant.

I have an unrealistic fear of gaining all my 140lbs loss back in the next 8 months. I know I'm growing another human, and I have to eat so my body doesn't suffer in the process, BUT that doesn't take away the fear of regain.

The one thing I'm relying on is all the good habits I established during my losing stage which I will go right back to after the baby is born because I know what works for me to lose weight.

Best wishes on your pregnancy ! ! !

Tiffykins, I am so happy for you!!!! I have read some of your posts and know that you have struggled for a while now...I am so glad you are feeling the same way I am!!! I have some crazy idea that I'm going to gain everything I lost too!! Then I get on the scale the other day and there they were... 2 pounds over night!! Yes, I freaked out. I am still walking on my treadmill for 30-50 minutes a day and I am definately hungry all the time so it feels like I am eating all the time even though it's just a little bit all the time. The doctor just said that the baby is taking what it needs and that is why I hadn't gained any weight and I was ok with that. I'm ok with gaining too but wasn't expecting it all at the same time!! LOL!! Would love to keep in touch with you through out the pregnancy! Good luck and take care!!

It's quite normal to put on weight during pregnancy! Your body is growing and changing to give your baby the best start in life. Here's where the extra weight comes from:

  • At birth, the average baby weighs anywhere between 2.8 and 3.3kg.
  • During pregnancy, the muscle layer of your womb (uterus) grows dramatically and weighs an extra 0.9kg.
  • The placenta, which nourishes your baby, weighs just over 0.5kg.
  • Your breasts weigh an extra 0.4kg.
  • Your blood volume increases and weighs an extra 1.2kg.
  • You have extra Fluid in your body, and amniotic Fluid around the baby, weighing around 2.6kg.
  • You will also lay down some fat during your pregnancy to provide you with extra energy for breastfeeding. This comes to about 2.5kg.

So, by the end of your pregnancy you might weigh about 10.5 - 11kg more than you did before you became pregnant. This is an average weight gain but of course, you're not an average woman. And no woman is.

Thanks

It's been pretty easy thus far to gain weight. At 25.5 weeks pregnant, a little over 6 months, I've gained 18-19lbs. My doctors are all elated. Tatum is growing and measuring heavy so I must be doing something right.

I have found that my arms, legs, face, have all remained really thin, and I'm all belly.

They bumped up my calorie intake because I was feeling so fatigued and lethargic so now I'm up to eating 1700-1800 calories a day. I've gained most of my weight in the last 2 months which is pretty common apparently.

I'm still not physically hungry, but I'm craving more junk food than I ever did in maintenance.

All is well on this end, and hope you are doing well.

Hello,

There are lots of factors that determine how much weight you will gain during pregnancy and what you eat is just one of them. Your age, race, height and pre-pregnancy weight all influence how your body is going to change over the next nine months. The one thing you can be sure of is that you will put on weight.

Thanks,

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
