1 week out of vsg op, 1 day home

Recommended Posts

It's been one week since my surgery. I was discharged Friday afternoon just to return Saturday morning with pneumonia and was discharged yesterday again. My concerns are I'm really afraid to eat cause I'm not to sure of what to eat and I'm having some emotional problems. Does anyone have any advice?

Was the pneumonia because of the anesthesia? How long have you been on IV fluids? My friend had something like this happen when he had WLS (he had gastric bypass, but the same kind of issue). He said it was most important for him to be hydrated, and then nutrients (specifically protein) came second.

What are you able to keep down?

I'm sorry you're having problems.. you'll pull through though!

Lots of love <3

Know in your heart, it gets better and better every day. Follow the guidelines your doctor gave you about eating, strictly. Remember if you can get past this phase, it gets way easier, and every day when you step on the scale you will be happy you did what you did.

Thank u very much for the posts. I got some encouragement. @ Laura23 after the surgery I was in a lot of pain this being the first surgery in my life. I couldn't do the breathing exercises so I guess that caused the pneumonia (basically what I was told). I drink Water and drink chicken broth only but everytime I do I seem to get a cramp which makes me don't want to eat. I will try my best to get 64 oz of fluinds in a day. Thank u very much for the support again....BTW I've lost 10lbs in my first week! That's my upside so far!

The cramping is normal, you are very swollen in your stomach. Sipping warm broth first helps loosen up the stomach and esophagus.

Are you on any acid reducing meds? They help the new tummy also. Trust me when I say each day gets better and before you know it you will take a full gulp of something and not even realize till afterward:)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
