My name is Molly. I have hit 253 lbs and decided it is time to do something about it. I am scheduled for VSG on March 28th. I was asked to do a PreOP diet and it is not going well. I originally wanted to do the Gastric Plication but changed my mind today. Is it really going to matter if I mess up my pre Op diet? I have no health issues besides being overweight. I am really nervous and excited at the same time. I have not been thin since i was in Jr High. Now I am at my heaviest weight ever. I have done every diet on the planet, I lose weight and then gain it all back plus more.

Welcome to the forum MollyMc. The pre-op diet is essential for super obese patients like you and me, it helps the liver shrink so as to not be so fatty during the operation, this is so that it won't be in harms way during the operation and make the surgeons field of view larger.

Messing up on the pre-op diet is relative. Sneak in a few bites of a hamburger is OK, eating 2 whole burgers and a side of fries with a shake is not. If you are at all concerned then call your surgeon and get their take on it. Stick with it girl, you can do it.

It wasn't 2 whole burgers...its was just double meat double cheese LOL!! No just kidding!! Thank you for your response. I think I will be okay. I am eating lean meat like turkey. Its just the low carb thing I'm having a problem with. I love bread!! But I am going to try harder!! I am really looking forward to my surgery. It seems like the hours are going by so slow but I know it will be here before I know it!

You can do it. The pre-op diet is hard, but well worth it. I would really recommend you go through the carb withdrawl during the preop diet instead of having to deal with that after surgery when you are already dealing with so much. You will feel like utter crap for about 4 days and then you feel fine. I actually feel more alert now that I have cut out the vast majority of the carbs I eat... but first you have to deal with the crappy feeling of getting off them. Best of luck!

Molly everyone on this forum is or once had problems with their carbs. You need to try to stick with the liquids. Not only does it srink the liver it also reduces your caloric intake so it will not be hard after surgery.. You have to get the carb thing under control. You have to be honest to yourself as well as be commited to your pre op diet. The level of commitment during your liquid diet will show how committed you are going to be with the sleeve.

WOW!! No my preop is not that strict. It's lots of lean meat and green vegis, very few starches and carbs...no sweets!! I have to be on a liquid diet 24 hours before surgery.

Wow, your pre-op diet is nice. Mine was full liquids for two weeks. Nothing but Protein shakes, crystal light, only greek yogurt and that was only every few days, sugar free popcicles and sugar free pudding. I am VERY glad I did it though because it made a HUGE difference after surgery. I got all of my withdrawls out of the way within the first four days of the pre-op diet. Since you will be on liquids for a minimum of one week (some surgeons require two or more) before you are allowed mushies the liquid diet before surgery makes a nice transition.

Once you get past the first four or five days things are much easier. Just stick to it. I found the afternoons were much harder than any other time of the day so I chewed a TON of gum and had to shake up my routine at work. You can do it!

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. You will not regret it at all. You'll look back on the two weeks you were on the pre-op diet and think nothing of them.

I didn't have to have a preop diet at all.lol. All surgeons are so different. You'll love your sleeve. I was a big bread eater and havent wanted bread in 10 months. Good Luck with the surgery and Welcome to the forum.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
