Hi Everyone,

I went to my first consult this past Wednesday and have been reading a bunch of y'all's post, but still have questions and concerns.

First, do you get enough Protein post-op to retain muscle?

Secondly, in the first few weeks, is there a lot of nausa and/or vomiting?

Thirdly, do you have poopy problems as well, Constipation and/or the opposite?

Very nervous about if it helps take the hunger or not ever being satisfied feelings away. It's like my taste buds are NEVER satisfied and I can eat and eat and eat!I'm ready to look like a lady again, and not the "Michelin Man."

Also, I'm worried about looking 20 yrs older when the weight comes off. I bet there's a whole lot of wrinkle under all this extra weight!

Welcome!

First, do you get enough Protein post-op to retain muscle?

Yes, that is the goal is to burn fat, and not muscle.

Secondly, in the first few weeks, is there a lot of nausa and/or vomiting?

I have yet to vomit, not even one single time (even in the anethesia-induced-notorious-for-making-you-sick environment). I did have a nausea patch before surgery that lasted a few days so I think that helped combat the anethesia stuff.

Thirdly, do you have poopy problems as well, Constipation and/or the opposite?

I am doing a high Protein, low carb diet (this works well for me) and that type of diet is notorious for giving people constipation. I drink a glass of benefiber almost daily (it is clear or orange flavored powder you mix with water) and that helps combat the lack of Fiber in my diet. I don't generally have bowel issues (before or after) so I think some of how you react to the change in diet is dependent on your body chemistry.

First, do you get enough Protein post-op to retain muscle?

It was near impossible the first few days after surgery but I've had no problems as of about 7 days out.

Secondly, in the first few weeks, is there a lot of nausa and/or vomiting?

I have yet to vomit either but I did have terrible nausea after surgery. No gagging or heaving but I felt like my stomach was very weak and the slightest taste of anything or even a smell could send me over the edge. It started the day after when they took the IV out and gave me the sublingual pain med. It was all downhill from there. I couldn't drink anything they gave me and they had to hook the IV back up to give me fluids and pain meds. I didn't feel better until the day after I got home which was the third day after surgery.

Thirdly, do you have poopy problems as well, Constipation and/or the opposite?

I am also doing a high Protein, low carb diet and I don't have any problems at all but that's not to say I won't start having them once I start on meat. Right now I'm still on mushies / soft foods.

I am one of the unlucky ones that still feels the hunger pain. I have it all the time it seems but once in a while I can eat something that makes it go away for a short time. I just had 1/2 cup of refried Beans with cheese about 45 mins ago and I have that pain and could easily eat again right now. Instead I will drink Water but it does nothing to make that feeling go away. This feeling is what made me overeat before surgery so it scares me.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Everyone,

I went to my first consult this past Wednesday and have been reading a bunch of y'all's post, but still have questions and concerns.

First, do you get enough Protein post-op to retain muscle?

My docs goal was 40g a day for week one, 60 g a day for week 2, and 80 g a day for week 3 on. This is in line with everything I have read about Protein needed by everyone, not just bariatric patients.

Secondly, in the first few weeks, is there a lot of nausa and/or vomiting?

I was terrified of nausea because anesthesia and narcotics both make me nauseous. I told everyone, and got plenty of anti-nausea meds. The first time I threw up was about 5 weeks out when I didn't chew enough, and it was bread which is difficult for me if I am not careful.

Thirdly, do you have poopy problems as well, Constipation and/or the opposite?

It was liquidy until my body ran out of iv fluids, then I got constipated, I started taking benefiber regularly until I was able to eat veggies. Now that I can eat fruit and salads, I have no problems. It is less and occurs every1-2 days.

Very nervous about if it helps take the hunger or not ever being satisfied feelings away. It's like my taste buds are NEVER satisfied and I can eat and eat and eat!I'm ready to look like a lady again, and not the "Michelin Man."

I was worried about this. I was hungry a lot from 2 1/2 weeks to about 5 weeks. Lately, I am rarely hungry. I have heard it can take some time to balance out. I still want to eat constantly for about 2 days before TOM, but can't eat as much as I used to.

Also, I'm worried about looking 20 yrs older when the weight comes off. I bet there's a whole lot of wrinkle under all this extra weight!

I worry about that too.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
