carbonated beverages

Recommended Posts

I know after the sleeve we are not suppose to drink carbonated beverages because of gas, but I was wondering what about diet rootbeer from A & W that comes from a soda fountain - diet rootbeer doesn't have any carbonation to it, do you think us sleevers could possibly have that ??? Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can have diet beverages, just let them go flat before drinking if there is any carbonation.

Diet rootbeer doesn't have carbonation in it???? Carbonation is the fizz or bubbles in soda pop, so rootbeer DOES have carbonation like any other soda.

Besides the bubbles causing gas most sodas have caffeine, the exceptions are most lemon-lime, ginger ales or caffeine free versions of sodas. The ultra sweet tastes might also trigger desires for sweets which undermine the sleevers diets.

I need to tell someone: I'm one week out and I am already being bad...

I have been used to drink sparkling Water all my life. It's so common here in Italy most of the families do. It's not as carbonated as soda water, but still. Normal water doesn't take my thirst away, at all. Actually, I find it quite disgusting.

So, now I am being good with everything, drinking my broth and my Proteins but a couple of times a day, when I am alone and on an empty stomach I drink 2 sips of carbonated water. I don't like coke or sprite or the other sweet sodas. I would never drink those. 2 sips of sparkling water. I think that if it's on an empty stomach just 2 sips can't really dilate my stomach... Am I completely wrong?

I had a urge for a taste of some diet pop about 2 weeks ago, so I popped open the can looking forward to that fizz in my mouth, that refresshing ahhhhhhhh and I took a drink!

For about 2 minutes I hurt and had to belch, just wasn't worth it, poured the rest out.

I would say reduce the risk and shake the bottle first, let out the air and have a couple sips after the water has gone a little more flat. I don't understand it, but the Doctors almost all say stay away from the bubbles... Some even say it is the difference between success and ultimate failure...

I haven't drank a soda in many years so I'm really not dealing with these cravings. However, soda really offers our bodies nothing we need, so it wouldn't hurt at all to NOT drink them, I'm thinking. I'm 5 months post op and I still have a very tight sleeve in comparison to some others. I'm going to do everything I can to keep it that way.

I was told that if later after I reach goal I really want to drink a carbonated drink then thats my choice but it's also Calories! I was warned that the first time you drink it it will usually hurt pretty bad but then your body gets used it. I personally don't plan on drinking soda again but who knows how things will change in the future!

I am a newbie sleeve (just two weeks and a few days out) and I get the whole thing about not drinking carbonated beverages because of the calories but what about diet coke/pepsi? I was a big fan of the large diet coke for $1 from Mcdonald's and was wondering if that will be gone from my life forever? Haven't had one since being sleeved, don't really miss it but I am also out of my element of real life as I went on vacation immediately following my surgery so I haven't been tempted by real life and want to be prepared.

Any help would be appreciated!

Sue

Bilka try zero carb sobe life Water, Vitamin water,,Propel zero they all have the flavors in them but not the carbonation..I would be so afraid to get carbonated water in my sleeve. Since your in Italy I don't really know what is avaliable to you but I have only drank about 32 ounces of water since surgery. I use like crystal light. etc. The taste of water just changed so much for me I guess. When I have nothing else I choose water.

I'm 4 months out and plain old Water is just nasty to me. i now drink Sobe life water the zero calorie kind, and crystal lite. Nothing carbonated, but my husband made some beer a few weeks ago and it is finally ready to drink, so of course i HAD to try it! i told him that i really didn't want to, but he said please just a sip. i barely wet my lips, and the burps to follow were killing me! so at 4 months it still hurts like heck, and i will not be partaking in the home brew festivities any time soon!!!

I have only tried fizzy drinks once since surgery.... and it was very flat but still gave me such horrendous pains... so I'd rather not bother with them... flat or not, and I used to drink lots of diet lemonade and fizzy Water.

In our meeting, we were told no to carbonated drinks. Not only does it cause discomfort, it increases the risk for ulcers. We used coke to clean the battery connectors on our cars when they are corroded. Just thinking of that going into my stomach is keeping me from drinking soda. I gave up soda November 23. I am not sure if I want to start again. I loved the bubbles surging through me but I am so much healthier with giving them up. It is a personal preference.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
