Did anyone else get an ugly bruise from the blood thinning shot in the stomach? I only got one right before surgery, and I am 1 week post op and it looks horrible. How long does it take to go away???

I don't think it has that much to do with where the shot went but how good the person who did it was. This is my arm one week after surgery where the incompetent night staff drew blood:

I had a horrible bruise on my arm from the heparin shot, but when I got the second shot in the other arm that was did not bruise. Go figure. It took almost a month for mine to go all away.

Wow nasty bruise Sue.

I hardly EVER bruise, it takes a bad bad hit or poke for me to bruise. The last one I had was during the IV insertion for a stress test I had last fall. Now I've donated blood and have had dozens of blood draws over the years but this was the worst stick I have EVER had. When she jabbed me I literally jumped out of the chair. The phlebotomist got snarky and said that "You are going to HAVE to sit still", she then poked me again, this time not as bad and fortunately she got a vein this time. I swear it felt like she was using a rusty nail instead of a needle. The whole test was a shambles. I will never use that hospital again.

To get back OT: No bruises. Does anyone know if they use a thinner for surgery in Jerusalem hospital in Tijuana MX?

It is the person who is giving it! I was in hospital a year back and needed Heparin shots in the stomach. I received one every day for 5 days and only the first one had a nasty bruise. The person who gave me the shot did it differently the first day than the rest of the LPN's did the other 4 days.

I will clear up in due time.

I was on Lovenox for most of my last pregnancy so I feel your pain. On top of strange bruises you can also get little nodules under your skin at the puncture site which can take a few weeks to go away. But they do go away....

I had to take lovenox for 2 weeks after surgery. The bruises will fade. I think some of mine took about a month.

I had huge bruises from my drip... so much so I wore very long sleeves in case people thought my husband was beating me! rolleyes.gif

My heparin also bruised my stomach... and the bruises took quite a while to clear up. There seemed no link between how the injections were administered and if they bruised or not.. .some stung really badly whereas other times nothing at all.

It'll clear up in the long run... you could try some arnica cream/gel to help a little, but they will fade in time.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
