I have a friend who is getting VSG (she doesn't have an acct here) and she wanted me to ask you guys a question. If you gain roughly 5-6lbs BEFORE your surgery will it be cancelled?

I personally have no idea because my surgery is scheduled for next month but hers is NEXT week!

I'd say it depends on the surgeon. My surgeon told me if I had not dropped 10 pounds by the day of surgery, it would be cancelled. So I'd say she's really pushing it. Let's hope her surgeon doesn't feel that way.

Each surgeon's office is different but I was not weighed on the day of surgery so if I had gained 5-6 pounds before surgery, I dont think that the surgeon would have known. I thinking for health reasons your friend should try to eat healthier this week before the surgery so that she will not gain any more weight.

I'd say she really needs to contact her surgeon about this. The reason why surgeons want us to lose pre surgery and to keep it off is because they want the keep the liver at a reasonable size. It's really hard to maneuver tools around with a fatty liver in the way.

This is why I always discourage pre-ops to NOT do the last meal thing (as long as it's not more than one meal). It's not a good idea to gain significant weight days before surgery.

Tell her good luck from us. It's best to be honest and open with her surgeon though, prior to having surgery. I've even heard of some surgeons calling off the surgery right in the middle of it due to the liver being way too large.

Although I'm not sure how you would gain weight on a liquid diet, tell your friend starting today to follow all of her surgeons instructions and focus on drinking tons of Water. I was not weighed the day of my surgery, but they do want your liver as small as possible and I've heard of surgeons stopping the surgery if things to do not look right when they go in.

It depends on who is doing your surgery.........I got weighed in 1 week prior my surgery during my pre opp appointment........and i gained like 4 pounds after because my surgery was a week before Thanksgiving.....however they didnt weight me on surgery day.....so it didnt really matter.....it all depends on who's doing your surgery.........

I have heard of surgeries getting canceled because people gained more than 5 pounds on surgery day. My surgeon told me that I have to try to lose 10 but I absolutely can't gain anything or surgery will be canceled.

My surgeon didn't say anything, but his assistant said that I'd have to be careful about Last Suppers/Food Funerals because if I gained weight, he'd cancel it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
