Any advice??Band has slipped a 2nd time now considering the sleeve

Recommended Posts

I was banded Nov 2007 and my band slipped and had a revision of my band March 2009. My surgeon did not replace the old band he left that one in and just repositioned it back into place. I have the old lap band that is the 4 cc band, and from what I have been told that band is prone to slips and they do not even use that one anymore. Did ok for a while had never been able to get my fills right since that surgery. My doctor is no longer in the area....long story. My new surgeon wanted me to have a Upper GI done recently to just make sure everything was ok. I had been having nighttime reflux , well sure enough my band has prolasped again. My surgeon took all the fill out of my band and said we would let it rest and see if goes back in place we could start after a month slowly re-filling the band and see if it happens again.

I am just tired of messing with it and feel like since this is the second time it's happen so he is going to refer me to a surgeon in St. Louis that is more experienced with revisions. My insurance will pay for a revision...so I am considering the sleeve. I have lost over 112 pounds with my band and have been pleased but I still have about 30 more to loose, I am afraid if I don't do something else I will gain all my weight back.

My last surgery when the band slipped the first time I was in surgery 5 hrs because of all the scar tissue and adhesions...so I guess that is why I am scared of another surgery. I would like to hear everyone's experience with the sleeve after the band and how you have done. Also if anyone has heard of any good revision surgeons in the St. Louis area.

I went through numerous complications with my band, so I understand. That's great you were able to lose so much with your band! I was not so lucky. I had my revision about a month ago and I LOVE my sleeve. It works so well and I am rarely ever hungry. I would seek a good revision specialist so that you can have your band removed and sleeve done in one surgery. The surgery really wasn't that bad, and at a month out I feel great. I've been losing and I am so happy! Good luck- I hope someone knows a good revision doctor in your area!

I did well the first year and half when I they repositioned my band, but since then I have stayed the same and have not lost anymore. I am hoping to get into the bariatric surgeon soon and they will do the surgery all at one time. I don't know alot about the sleeve but that is what my doctor recommend to be. What made you choose to have the sleeve?

Newbie, I'm kind of in your position, I was banded in Oct 08, lost about 40 pounds and hit a brick wall, a year into the band I started having really bad reflux at night, after a couple of upper GIs and EGD scope, my doctor decided we needed to take it out. Getting band removed on Wednesday and can't wait. Don't have in Fluid in it now, the day he removed all the Fluid my acid reflux went away the same day, but unfortunately the damage has already been done to my esophageus. Doctor wants to wait a few months and see how everything heals before we try something different. My vote is for the sleeve so that is what I'm going to push. This site has been so helpful. Cant wait until Wednesday to get this out of me. Will give my update later in the week.

Read the section of the board band to sleeve revisions. There are so many of the same stories. I was thrilled when I heard about the sleeve and could hardly wait to have my revision surgery. The band is a nightmare and living with the sleeve is pretty effortless.

I remember seeing your posts on LBT. I am glad you found something that works. I waited so long for the band to be covered by insurance and got mine in Sept. 2008 but it is a nightmare. Has never stopped my hunger and is now unfilled due to a bad stuck episode. I would love to get the sleeve because it seems like my stomach below the band is always calling out for food to fill it. It most of it could be removed I think it would help. But I think I'm too old.

Plus I have never bought all that stuff about the band pressing on the vagus nerve causing you feel full.

Congratulations to you on your new success. Best of luck to you.

Well thank you! I wish they would just take that band off the market and save people from so much misery! The sleeve is definitely a far superior WLS!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
