A GAIN?!?! WTF?!

Recommended Posts

Argh!

Day 15 post op, and I happily jump on the scales to find a 1lb GAIN!

So I pee, I move the scales, I stand on one foot, and that sneaky little 1lb is still there!

I'm about to seriously start excercising as my wounds are almost healed, and I think my diet is ok, I went abroad so don't get follow up nutritional advice, but I've been having 2 Protein shakes a day (just over 200 kcals between them) and either a cuppa Soup, an egg or a couple of spoons full of mushy stuff for tea (impossible to be more than a couple of hundred kcals tops), I've managed 2-4 Hot drinks a day, and about a pint of Water to make sure I'm hydrated, and I've had around 76g proteine a day too. So I'm on 300-500 kcals max, how can my body not be using that?

Could anyone please suggest where this additional lb has come from, and what I am doing wrong? I'm most unhappy with it, and so soon from surgery I feel like I am failing! :(

Cx

Just be patient with your body, its adjusting... If youre doing everything dr ordered, it will come off, but remember, your body has some adjusting to do thruout this process.. Good luck

It could just be Water retention too

My Nut reminded me that she wants me to get 64 oz Fluid every day. I do good to get 48. I can promise you if you don't stay hydrated you will end up in the ER for fluids (then you will gain 6 pounds overnight).

Also, you mentioned tea; make sure it is Decaf. Caffine retains Water.

Good luck.

Water weight is affected by many factors, salt, caffeine intake, hormones, air pressure, allergies, TOM (Aunt flo), medicine and time of day just to name a few. I found out that my allergy medicine was causing me to retain water at night.

I posted the same thing. Everyone told me that sometimes you stall or even gain. It's like your body taking a breather to adjust.

Do you ever watch "The Biggest Loser"? If so, you know how in week 2 nobody loses no matter what they eat or how hard they exercise? It's the same concept. Your body just needs to adjust to the changes.

The ~3 week stall/gain has hit. I'm so sorry that you are going through this - it is very frustrating. There are two good things about this (1) We've all been there and feel your pain and (2) This too shall pass. Keep your chin up!

I couldn't agree more. I didn't really have a 3rd week stall, but I surely had a 3 months out stall... the good thing is - now that it is over I've nearly lost 10 Lbs in two weeks! :D It will start happening again, not to worry. Just keep plugging along and doing the right things, it will start to work again.

The only thing I would say to change up is your Water intake, IMPO you need more than a pint. I know plain water can be difficult in the first weeks so herbal (decaf) tea can really be a friend. Plain peppermint is gentle and soothing.

Thanks everyone. I dropped 1lb and thought it had passed, then gained it back and I'm still stalling. Ho hum!

As the scales are not currently my friend I spent last night trying on, and throwing out clothes. It was brilliant! Gone are my pre christmas 24's, 22's and 20's, I have 18's and some 16's and I've promised myself not to hide in baggy things, they make me look fatter, and are a comfort I dont need! Although I'm using better underwear to make the 16's work! ;-)

Thanks for the encouragement! Cx

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
