African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

Congrats on getting sleeved!

You ca do it!

This came up and was posted on another forum. Some one asked a question about rather tell or not? This is where I'm at so far. I have only told a few people about my upcoming surgery. I wanted to tell my mom. But she wasn't supportive of weight loss surgery. I may tell her when I get a date.

My hubby however, is becoming even more supportive.

After going to the information session last night I am having major second thoughts! I'm so confused and lost!!! Before going I knew for sure I wanted this surgery now I'm just so worried about how this surgery will change my life and the issues that may come along with it!! Y'all please pray for me

Don't be scared its a lot of information to take in....my sleeve date is 12/12/12 and I'm nerves only because I've never has surgery before. But I'm ready to change my life and get healthy. It's gonna be risk and I think if I follow the doctors orders u will be fine. Just stay positive!!!

Really?? Wow, I went to a class yesterday also and it just confirmed me that im making the right choice. It is a very hard decision, my family isnt supportive but I refuse to go another year obese! So pray and ask God to lead you, only you know whats acceptable for you.Whatever you choose, tryvto become the best you!

85% That still makes me cringe, has anyone else struggled with that no? Im sometimes worried about if something else happend and I need to get a portion of my stomach removed, then what? This is crazy, but I refuse to let another year go by and im fat!

This is a major surgery! I went 10 years ago to a gastric bypass seminar, and then 5 years ago to the lap band seminar. At both sessions, I was over 310lbs. Even though I knew that I needed help, I wasn't ready for surgery and the changes. I was afraid of how I would look with the skin and the lifestyle of not being able to enjoy eating. 10 years later, I still don't have any health issues other than knee pain and I am finally ready for the change.

Take some time - the surgery will be here when you are ready. There may even be a new procedure that you feel more comfortable with.

Congrats on getting sleeved!
