African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

hello all iwas sleeved October 17 2011 don't worry about hair loss ihave yet to lose my hair meaning edges or huge clumps it's more common to lose hair with gastric bypass since all your nutrients aren't absorbed

Glad to hear u haven't had problems.

PEvette good luck on Friday. My prayers are with you.

I am 5 months out today and started noticing hair loss about a month ago. I don't think it's noticeable to others, but I can tell. I am natural and wear my hair in a loose, curly fro. I can imagine that it would have been very noticeable if I was wearing it straight. The back has thinned to me so I've been pinning it up or wearing it in a large afro puff on top of my head. Hopefully, it will stop soon. But I'm down 75 lbs and look and feel SO good! It's worrisome, but I've been looking on the bright side of things.

You are not alone I was sleeved 12/13/11 so I'm 6 months out and 10lbs from goal and 31 years old. I have tons of loose skin my doctor says at least a few pounds worth. I'm working on the toning aspect of my journey now so I too am praying some of it will snap back accordingly.

Hello Everyone ..I'm in Cleveland and just completed my 3 month diet and all preop testing. I see the surgeon on 6/27 and then my paperwork will be sent to Medical Mutual for approval. I am really hoping to be sleeved by the end of July. I am worried about hair loss as well. I also have MS so I am a little concerned about how my body will adjust after surgery. I have been reading on this site and it has really given me some good insight. I just wanted to thank you all for sharing your journeys. If anyone lives close inbox my I would love to have a buddy that shares this experience.
