African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

Great question' date=' I'm preop but I'm loading up on protein now...locs falling out is not an option...hopefully someone can give us both some insight though.[/quote']

I am in the same boat. I loaded up on protein during my preop. I was sleeved on Monday June 3rd. I found in my research that as long as we get our proper amount of protein and water, hair loss should be minimal to nonexistent.

Cream of wheat 2 oz

Yummy!

kalimom' date=' i have seen this statement a few times but i have no idea what it means, does "sits heavy" mean "im going to puke"? i mostly see it with respect to pasta and rice and think is the sleeve a severe low carb diet for the rest of your life? at 7 mths out eating whatever you want is pretty impressive. i am thinking i will be terrified to eat for a bit. i had brain surgery a few years ago and eating made me throw up. i lost tons of weight because i was scared to eat, i think it was like 3 mths before i tried something other than canned fruit.[/quote']

Sitting heavy means I can actually feel it sitting in my stomach sometimes it can cause nausea too but only if I eat too much of it. I don't do extreme low carbs it makes me cranky and I am half filipino I can't live without rice. I can eat pasta without issue but bread gives me the same feeling as rice unless it is toasted till crunchy.Eating what I want is of course relative to what I like to eat but I will try almost anything at least once.Spicy food makes me feel full very quickly and dense protein I can only do a max of 3 ounces at one time.

Hey Guys! To those that are post-op what are you doing to gain your skin elasticity back to prevent saggy skin?
