Sorry hadn't checked this thread for a while. And I see now that it's a moot point, but no, I had just heard that she left. No idea where she had gone. Very glad to see her back. I always thought of her as one of the highlights of the program. Sorry to hear that Linda left, I thought she was amazing and was most helpful with some issues I had.

Welcome John!! Good to see a guy on here. If you have any ?'s ask away.

Wanted to share a great moment with everyone. I went shopping the other weekend for a new outfit for a job interview. I was in the Women's section in Kohl's and could not find anything. Everything was to big. I gave up and was starting to walk out the door and spotted a top that was cute and thought that I would see if it would fit. It was in the Misses section and didn't think it would. But I got an XL and went and tried it on and it DID!! I havn't shopped in the Misses section since I was probably under 12 yrs old. Then I went to Lane Bryants to try out some pants and was able to get into a size 16!!! It has been 15 yrs or so since I have been in that size. I am loving this. I am so glad I made the choice to have the Lapband.

Good luck to everyone else. Can't wait to hear about everyone else's awwwwe moments.

Jeanette

Hi all, I wanted to introduce myself, I've been reading this site for quite some time and this is my first post. I am finally awaiting insurance approval and can't wait to get a surgery date. Dr. Hoehn is the surgeon who will be performing my surgery. I started my jouney the first part of November and it's been awhile, but I've seen the dietician, Dr. Sabapathy and been to a lapband support group already. I'm not sure what else I have to go thru once my insurance is approved, but hope to have a date in March or early April. I love this website and visit often and hope to make lots of new friends on here. Teri

Just called United Health Care and found out my surgery has been approved. Whoohoo, I'm so excited, just waiting for Dr. Hoehn's office to call me now to do whatever comes next? Surgery date, I hope. I can't wait.

My surgery was about 2 years ago, just long enough that it's getting hard to remember the specifics, but I think my order went something like this:

Call of confirmation from the office > scheduling (consultation, dietician, education session with the coordinator, psychologist). I had met with the dietician and coordinator prior to getting my surgery date, which I got at the consultation. The psychologist's office was a little backlogged so I ended up squeezing that in last minute. In fact my last visit with him was the day ebfore my surgery.

Thanks Wheetsin, I've already seen the dietician, Dr. Sabapathy and took the phsycy eval. I have to see Erin a few times in Dr. Sabapathy's office and still need to do preop education class, I know that I still have to meet with Dr. Hoehn also, I was just hoping to get a surgery date soon and wasn't sure if anything else was going to be required. Thanks for the info.

Do you have a consultation scheduled with Dr. Hoehn? That's when you get your date, at least when I had mine done. Getting my consultation date was *I think* one of the earlier things that happened.

Edited to add - I misread your post. I think the program has changed a lot since I went through. I don't remeber anything being required prior to getting the consultation. In fact, I think I had the consultation, then started getting scheduled for all the other stuff in the meantime.

I think!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
