Looking for reassurance

Recommended Posts

Hi there, my name is Shelly and I was sleeved May 24th, 2010. I haven't been on the board in forever. Since surgery I have lost 55 pounds. I started out at 270 and I have been hovering at 215 for a few weeks now. I guess I'm just looking for the sign from others that I will get below 200 pounds. I do try my best to eat right and healthy, but I will admit I dont always make the best choices. I haven't been for a post op visit since June because I really cannot stand the surgery coordinator and she is the only one who does it. I know I need to suck it up and go see her. I feel better about myself and I love fitting into a size 16 jeans down from a 22/24, but I really want to see a single digit size. I am definitely not the best at working out especially since I am going to school full time, 2 kiddos and a husband getting ready to deploy. I try to talk to my husband about it, but those conversations can only go so far because he has never had a weight problem.

I would love to hear some meal ideas for a person 7 months out still trying to lose 50 more pounds.

Thank you

Shelly

Hi Shelly, I had a bad previous week as I had a really bad cough and was drinking loads of cough medicine and having cough sweets and I need to get back on track already. Alex posted an article this morning that really inspired me http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/11872-your-resolution-to-lose-weight-write-it-down-and-succeed/page__pid__102258#entry102258

I'm going to track, track and track what I eat. I'm really early out so haven't got much in the way of recipe suggestions just yet.

I don't know, seem a bit slow. Slow isn't all bad. I'm almost 11 mos out and I have lost I think 85 percent of my excess weight but I have a pretty low goal. I seem to have started maintaining a bit early, but then I will drop a few pounds. I'll lose 4 then regain 2 and so forth. It makes progress downward but slowly now, very slowlllllly

I got scared I wouldn't be able to stop losing, I think to the point that I started adding in too much sugar/carbs I wanted to prove to myself that I could maintain I think bc my doctor scared me a bit I've been struggling to lose 2-4 lbs a month now.

You and I both need to kind of push it a bit harder I think with exercise. When I exercise vigorously, even walking all day bc of work or an event I tend to lose weight.

Sounds like you are not quite getting the nutrition just right nor the exercise. I can so relate to that as I've just kind of relaxed into this whole thing

But I think if we choose one or the other it will jumpstart the weight loss, right? I mean perhaps doing both right is hard but focusing on at least 1 of those should make a difference.

I want to start adding in 30 minutes of exercise every day, kind of my New Years Resolution for the Whole Year of 2011.

Have you tracked your food intake lately to see exactly what you are taking in, not just calories, but Protein, carbs, Water etc?

Hey Lovingme2011...your weight loss to date is amazing!! Well done you!

If you need to continue to lose, could you retrace a time where you had really good weight loss and eat in the same way.? I am sure that you will get your head around it and lose again... but for now, be proud of the brilliant job that you have done to date!

Coops has great advice!

I know that for me, my best tool (besides the sleeve!) was tracking my food. That way, I made sure I got in all my Protein (plus some) and stayed below a certain calorie limit. If you are like me, a little past 6 months, I found I could eat more. So, I upped my daily calories to 1200. And guess what? Not only was I satisfied longer, I lost more weight.

Everyone has their favorite sites, but for me, it's www.myfitnesspal.com - seems to have all the foods I need & I love the recipe converter. I put all my family favorites there & it's been really easy to count dinner (& usually lunch the next day!)

If you need a buddy or someone to talk to, feel free to send me a message. I know what you mean about husbands who "just don't get it". My husband is 6'5" and hasn't had a weight problem his entire life - no matter what he eats. He tries hard to understand, but just can't relate.

Good luck - your goals are within reach! Go for it!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
