Putting myself on voluntary 2wk pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

OK

So I am about 2 weeks away from my sleeve!!!!

Surgeons orders are that I go on a liquid diet 2 days pre op. I see that others are told to do one 2 weeks pre-op, and I decided to go with that because I want to lose a couple more pounds and get my liver into shape. Today is day 1 and I am STARVING!! I dont know what to do, I am currently drinking a Chike strawberry Protein Shake w half a banana blended in. Earlier I had some beef broth, but I cheated and had some microavable Broccoli w cheese sauce as well (not too bad on the cals). This morning for Breakfast I had plain oatmeal. So, I am realizing that I have no idea what constitutes a pre-op liquid diet. Are we talking clear, full, anything at all liquid? (Obviously I know an ice cream shake doesnt count :) So my question is: What guidelines am I supposed to follow pre-op? Is the diet simply to get me used to liquids? Cause I dont know how Im gonna survive these 2 weeks ;)

Thanks, Ill be getting back to my shake now :)

Oh my! I was required a two day clear liquid diet and my surgeon said my liver looked great. I was only allowed liquid you can see through and no Protein Drinks. And no red dye. Jello, broth, crystal light, Water. I really dont think I could have done that pre-op. I know others have but I think that my surgeon decides what is best for you. Do you have reason to believe your liver is really large? I think if you just do a hard core low fat, low carb diet you will be fine. Then just do the liquids like the DR said. I lost 3 pounds doing the colon cleanse the night before. Good Luck to you.

Thanks for the advice!

I honestly dont know what kind of shape my liver is in. I know that I have more cholesterol then I had a year ago, I was normal then and now I am definitely into the high range. I just dont want to take any chances with the weight, I weighed myself yesterday and I was 8 lbs less than what the surgeons scale said, but it has been fluctuating every week. The thing is that I am a snacker, it almost doesnt matter what Im eating. I might do 2 shakes, maybe some broccoli etc to snack and a low cal high protein dinner. MMMM even broccoli is starting to sound delish

Here's what I did, and it's not too bad. I have 2 shakes as Meal Replacements a day. And for the third meal, I have vegetables and Protein (fish, chicken, or tofu). Usually for that meal, I have a big salad with grilled chicken. I think this is doable, will keep you on a low carb regime, and keep you from starving. Doing this, I have lost 9 lbs in two weeks, which is pretty much what my doctor thinks will prep me for surgery. I hope that helps. If I feel extra starving, I'll have a snack of a half cup of cottage cheese, as well.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
