Smoothie... ok for full liquids, or more mushies?

Recommended Posts

So, I am in love with this smoothie from the Ultrametabolism diet book. It is just almond milk, PB and a banana. In the book you're supposed to use a natural almond or walnut butter, but I used reduced fat cream PB. At this point, I could live on this smoothie and if I can add some unflavored Protein to it post-op, even better. I was curious though.... once I'm finally post-op would the smoothie be considered a full liquid, or would the banana push it into the mushy category? Just looking for general info, thanks!

I would like to know too! I had a banana blended in my Protein Drink today and wondered if it was allowed (full liquid pre-op diet). I loved it so much i want to know when i'm allowed to have it after sleeved.

My doctor has told me if it fits through a straw and you don't have to chew then he considers it a liquid. However not every doctor looks at it like that. I do know that I am not allowed to have any chunks of anything "banana included" But if it blends up and is able to fit through a straw with out chunks I think I'm ok. However I am staying away from fruits at this moment. I am sticking to my cream Soups with chunks strained out. As well as my Gold Standard 100% whey Protein Powder from GNC. It maybe $45 a jug, but it's sooooo yummy. It was actually very surprising how good it was. I bought the strawberry kind to Give me something other then chocolate or vanilla. Anyway call your doctors office and find out from the nurse/doctor if a banana is considered a liquid if it's blended in well enough. If not try substituting the banana with a jar of baby food banana's. It may not work out to well, but you never know until you try.. Best of Luck!!

I think you might want to get your Surgeon's advice on this one. The only thing that concerns me is that bananas do have tiny little seeds in it. If you can hold off on this until you hit your mushies stage, you might be better off. It does sound delicious though!!

The substitution with the baby food banana is a great idea. Yes? NO? But now i think about it, wouldn't pb be a mushie food too? Im a newbie so i would like to know where pb stands, full liquids or mushies?

Sounds like something to look forward to in the future. I did buy Chike banana Meal Replacement, and it is creamy and yummy and ok for full liquids. I make it with soy milk, but you could use almond milk too.

I read this post earlier and decided to try something. I took a banana cut it in half. I know it may seem time consuming, but I cut the banana length wise and used a very small spoon and slid the spoon down the center to remove the seeds. cut it into small cubes put it in the blender with some ice and my skim milk and Protein. A no seed smoothie. I also did kind of the same thing to some strawberries. I peeled them, (Yes I peeled strawberries.) cut them up and placed in a container sprinkled with some splenda. In the fridge. Will use those in the morning with my greek yogurt in the blender. Thats breakfast. If it can be seeded try it.

My nut told me if you can blend it and you can remove the seeds you can have it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
