I think at 2 weeks from having most of your stomach removed you should be concerned only with healing.

Oh, Believe me, that is my first priority, i still worry about a leak and am constantly worrying, but since i have nothing to do but sit and read this forum, i notice all the weight loss and asked some questions. but my healing proccess is #1 always....vicki :)

Hey Vicki--

I am right with you! Remember you and I had the same surgery date.

I was losing 1 lb a day and now nothing. My total loss since surgery is 11 lbs. Talk about a stall. OMG !

There is no way that I can get 64 oz of Fluid in as well.

Today, I should start stage 3. Ya, sure. I am lucky enough to eat 8 oz of food a day (1 cup total). I still eat cream style stuff.

I have talked to a few friends and they said that my body is in starvation mode. And it will catch up. I am not worried.

In the "OLD DAYS" I would eat and eat. I was hungry all the time. I would eat anything and everything I wanted and now---BAM, down to only ounces of food a day. My body is like---WHAT? Where are the Big Macs and fries at? So now my body is holding onto everything. And pretty soon my body will have to start eating the fat. At least this is what I am told...

Hi Sac, i'm glad i heard from you and am sooooo greatful to hear that i am not alone, i am down 10 lbs today and to see your at 11, makes me feel like this is normal....i am suppose to start full liquids today and some thinned out mushies, does it feel wierd going into your new sleeve or just like it did before surgery.....boy i could go for a big dinner and desert , in my head, i feel like i could eat alot...lol :D

Actually I think the body is re-adjusting a bit...Well of course it is, we only had 85% of our stomach removed...:D

So tell me---this is what happens to me when I eat something...Like a just ate a bit of oatmeal. Maybe 3 bits or so. And all of a sudden my stomach hurts. I get pains. So I stop eating. But my mouth says--"THATS NOT ENOUGH!" Do you feel like that?

And also, I feel like my body is screaming at me--"I NEED FOOD!" I have been feeling like this for about 3 days now...

Hey pam, i havent had anything except fluids, i am suppose to start mushies on wed, i havent even had creamed Soup yet! i may try a little bit today, they told me to make it a consistancy of Water and i tried, and it tasted terrible, so i figured i would wait till wed and have it right out of the can and not thinned out....what r u allowed to eat now?

This is what I don't understand: Before I was sleeved, if I ate 700 calories a day of high Protein, low carb, I dropped weight like crazy, easily five pounds a week or more. Now that I've been sleeved, I'm eating 700-ish calories a day of high protein, low carb, and I'm losing MAYBE a pound a week. Why would I be a fast loser before surgery and a slow loser after surgery? Is this caused by a massive hormonal shift? I would think that at almost five weeks out my body would be coming out of shock, but maybe not. I stalled 11 days post-op (October 24th), then lost two pounds about a week ago. Now I seem to be stalled again. I get that this is part of the process -- a part I didn't know about before I decided to have surgery -- and I'm resigned to it because what's done is done, but this thread has prompted me to comment because I really am curious about how surgery changes our metabolism. Is the metabolic change only temporary? Do pre-op fast losers eventually become post-op fast losers?

wow kristy, that is really interesting. Let's see---

I had 2 to 3 oz of oatmeal for Breakfast.

2 oz of egg salad.

I chew everything until its almost nothing...

I dont drink Protein drinks at all. It makes me sick. I am sure I am not getting enough Protein at all.

Hey Vicki--do you live in sacramento?

Ha, don't i wish, I live in Buffalo, NY. i cant believe your eating all that, weren't we sleeved on the same day?

LOL---no i dont eat all of that for breakfast---sorry my mistake

i eat only 2 oz of oatmeal...

sometimes i might have egg salad instead, but only 2 oz or less...

but come to find out, oatmeal swells the pouch. so my NUT says NO NO NO on oatmeal...

and yes, we were sleeved the same day...

wow kristy, that is really interesting. My stall finally broke, so I'm hoping now I get an idea about what my losing rate will be. I feel like things are just now starting to move. So, for me, it took until Week Five for my body to start coming out of shock.

I tell my patients to avoid the scale for at least the first 2 weeks. It's tough to do but the scale is worthless during that time and can be discouraging.

In fact, it takes your body a minimum of 6 weeks to get to 85% healed (which is where we want it). The first 2 weeks are filled with significant Fluid shifts and marked changes in your body's metabolism. Your body is used to getting 2500 calories per day (or more) and all of a sudden it's getting 800-1200kcal. Your body doesn't like that. It was very comfortable at 100lbs overweight (or whatever you were) and an old, and I believe true, theory is the "set-point". Your body was happy at its former weight and will do everything it can to conserve that.

You will win this battle. Just stick with it. Try to not obsess about the scale, especially the first 6 weeks.

thanks vicki, I really appreciate the info and will try very hard to stay off the scale LOL....i didn't realize it took 6 weeks to get to 85%. wow... how long to 100 %??

Vicki- how are you feeling? What foods can you eat now? I have been able to have some real Protein since Monday. I mostly stay with turkey, eggs or cheese. The problem is I think I can eat more then I should and my stomach is like I don't think so and I get this weird pain. I think I also eat to fast, which was something I always did. I really need to work on that. I know we can't eat that much but I hope I don't always feel pain after I eat.

Its so weird I eat a few oz and get full then in a couple hours I feel hungry so i have another oz and get full, its like feeding a newborn, do you feel that way?

I honestly think you'll have to cut the juice at least dilute with Water or start some crystal light or the G2 sugar free gatorade. I don't think your age will impede your weight loss. There are several members on here that are over 50, and even stoongal who is 70 years old have all lost their weight and then some. On full liquids, you can have cream Soups, sugar free puddings/custards and you can mix unflavored Protein powder with those to help get in more Protein which will actually keep you full longer than fruit juice. Thin liquids like the juices, go in and straight out. They don't have enough consistency to hold you over. I would switch to clear fluids, and start with some cream Soups or sugar free pudding with Protein Powder mixed in. By every guidelines I've read, creamy soups, sugar puddings/custards, and yogurts are all full liquids so you should be able to eat those without any issue. Greek yogurt mixed with some sugar free pudding powder or Protein Powder will give you more satiety and protein grams as well if you can mix a chocolate or other flavored protein powder with it.

How many carbs should we get post op as our diets progress?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
