HCG diet and sleeve

Recommended Posts

Just wandering if any of you have tried the HCG injections/diet after having the sleeve. I have done the diet in the past, and with not being able to eat very much, thought it might be simple to do again. Yes, I hate the daily injections, but I did see a difference in mostly "inches" while I was on the diet.

Anyone else tried it??? Thinking about it, but not quite sure.

I lost major inches just by following the post-op guidelines. I mean I dropped 113lbs in 6.5 months with just VSG and simply following the 600-800 calories a day, no more than 30gr of carbs, and 60+gr of Protein. I don't think you'll need anything additional to reach your goal if you work your sleeve. You can just focus on eating nutrient and protein dense foods and lose weight without adding anything else to the equation with VSG.

i was interested in your post.... i personally do not think you need both. i do have several friends that are on the HCG diet. they seem to be having success.... one even states that the weight she looses she will never regain...... I WILL HAVE TO SEE THAT ONE! anyway i am opting for the VGS . maybe you should talk to your doctor. maybe it would work good together. i will be interest to read what you find out. kelly

I had the VSG in hopes that I'd never have to resort to a fad diet again. Tiffy and KBL are right---the VSG plan is enough in itself. It looks like you are a fairly new post-op---give your surgery a chance...the weight WILL come off if you follow *this* plan. You don't need more injections or a fad diet. VSG is to be maintainable for life.

Good luck to you!!

I agree that I have been losing much better and quicker than I was with the lap band. Just thought about the shots to help lose a few extra inches as we have a big Vegas trip coming up in December! I would love to be able to get on the plane and not need a seat belt extender....plus, I am planning a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon for our anniversary.

KBL - I would probably bet that your friend will regain the weight. I have several friends I work with that have done the 21 days diet, lost great and have gained it all back, plus a little more. Me to boot!!!

Jordien - the HCG diet is where you take daily HCG shots and are limited to a very strict 500 calorie a day diet. You do the diet for either 21 days or a maximum of 40 days.

I am just being impatient and need to calm down. I have been working out daily, with working out twice daily at least 3 times a week.....which I haven't done that since high school when we had PE and then after shoocl sports!!!

Thanks for all the replies and encouragement!!!!

I did two rounds of the HCG diet before I even considered my sleeve. I'm losing just as fast and most days faster than the HCG diet with just my sleeve. I don't recommend the HCG diet while just having a sleeve done. Your body is trying to regulate your hormones that are changing as it is. I really think it would be slight sabotage on your sleeve; let you body get used to your sleeve without throwing anything else in the mix.

HCG really isn't all that of a miracle; it's really just the starving on the 500 calories a day that contributes to the weight loss on the HCG diet. Like the PP said it's a total fad. I've injected WAY more (10,000iU at one time) HCG then the HCG diet calls for during infertility treatments and never had loss of appetite or fat loss from it. I've also been pregnant twice and gained weight both times; mind you I pretty much starved for the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy because I was so sick and I only lost 5lbs.

Dr. Simmons protocol is complete crap if you ask me. I lost 22lbs with the HCG diet (followed to a T) and ballooned up 16lbs heavier than I was prior to ever doing it. I lost 22 to gain 38 back. It wreaks havoc on you metabolism. Just work your sleeve, it's all you need :)

I've been told that hCG helps with elasticity with your skin, so presumably, when you lose, your skin stays tight so there's no excess hanging folds. I did the diet about a year ago, lost 30 pounds in a month, and wanted to punch someone in the face because I was starving myself each and every day. Now with the sleeve, I've lost about the same weight in the same time, still slightly hungry constantly and I feel great and don't want to punch anything/anyone. I regained the hCG lost weight quickly and am glad that I'm sleeved because I know I'll never go back. This forced restriction and post-op diet plan is amazing.

I'm glad someone brought this up because the skin thing has been on my mind since I made the decision to get the sleeve. Has anyone else heard of this?

I had to join jus to reply. There are thousands of people post vsg that has started gaining after just one year post op. The HCG dud like any diet if not done properly you will gain. Phase 3 is the most important you have to do 21 days still on low cards low calories it gives list of foods you may add. It say it takes 21 full days for that stuff to be completely out of your system if not you will gain a ton. Most people that has regained from it I'm sure did not follow the last two phases completely. I lost 30 pounds and it never came back it's been years. I also did drops from Walmart . It's your opinion. But, to let you know it's FDA approved and 100% safe. You have to change your way of thinking to be successful on any life change. It works but you have to do it completely I did 30 days followed by 21 days of low calories low carbs only using required foods. Don't cheat yourself.

I know this is from 2010 but I wanted to put my 2 cents in. I did hcg 3 times. Each with injections and 42 days. Followed thru with each phase. Lost 50 pounds each time. Only to regain. Now 7 years later and 60 pounds heavier, I realize I need more. Am in preop diet stage. Soon as I lose last 8 pounds, I can schedule surgery. Aiming for april.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
