Hi, I'm also going Nov 1. I am starting to feel less nervous and more excited. But that can change at any time. I just want it over with. I don't have a clue what to bring. I'm not even on a pre-op diet, Also wondering, how long are you taken off from work? Good luck, Janine

My date is two weeks away Nov. 8th, but so far I've purhased powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder, and Celebrate Multivitamin Protein power. For the hospital stay I have slippers and my favorite robe. I have many packets of sugar free Jello and a box of sugar free popsicles. I should have enough of every to take me to my two week post op appt. I hope this helps

I have seen on the site that crystal light popcycles are a fovorite, also juice which will be diluted 1/2/& 1/2 with Water, broth, gatorade, sugar free Jello, and my pre op diet starts tomorrow and i already know it is south beach phase 1, i also need to bring my c-pap, so if you have one, bring it, they told me no c=pap, no surg....Oh and protien powder unflavored or citrus flavored...hope this helps, if u hear of anything else let me know cause i know we will get bored...lol

I wish i could feel excited but im too scared, i dont work anymore, but i heard 2-4 weeks depending on what u do...good luck and keep me posted.

I am not at all prepared, I don't even have slippers. I have not tried a Protein Drink even though I told the doctor I did.

The unflavored Protein Powder what do you mix it with and how much Protein per serving does it have?

Last week I was more nervous, I think we are going to have a lot of mixed emotions over the next few weeks. This board has been the biggest help, knowbody else understands.

Thank you and good luck on the pre op diets, Janine

they probably put those non slip socks on u anyway, i quit bringing slippers and robes cause with the iv lines and telemetry its too hard to wear a robe so if i walk the halls i just put another surgical gown on open to the front and they always give me the non slip socks. as far as the non flavored protien, i have never used it before, i was going to get it, but now my doc says i can use the pre made choc. eas myoplex that i have been using, he is also lettting us have v 8 juice and strained creamed Soup, so i would ask your doc. i have to have a phase 1 south beach Breakfast the morning before and then no more solids before surg, just liquids till mid. and I also have to cleanse with magnesium citrate ugh.>>>:o my final weigh in today i was down 3 lbs so at 221. keep me posted....~vicki

Thank you for the advice. Hope everyone who is having their surgery next week is not so nervous. I'm trying to just focus on what I have to do today and I'm trying not to think about the surgery to much. Anyways, I gained a pound yesterday when I went back to the doctors, I have been so hungry. Is anyone feeling like they need to eat like its their last meal?

Take care, Janine

Vicki- I know I read the people having to be on Clear Liquids for two weeks before and I feel bad, I'll be lucky if I can not eat after 12 the night before my surgery. I have to go tomorrow to a nutrition class and should get all my information then, I'll let you know what they tell me. I just can't wait till one week from now. I told my kids the doctor said they have to wait on me for a month, no cleaning or cooking, LOL.

Their not falling for it.

Take care, Janine

I had my final weigh in today, I lost 3 pounds, with a total of 9 pounds. Not so great but its a start, only 120 pounds to go LOL. I had a complete break down when I got home from the doctors today. I do know I want this surgery but I felt feel so scared. Things after are going to be so different. One day at a time, I guess.

Saturday I start a liquid diet, not bad only two days. Which includes real chocolate pudding (not sugar free) on Saturday, But after surgery for 2 weeks, a liquid diet with my Protein shakes than I can start having 3 oz real Protein. It doesn't have to be blended just cut small. Also a lot of Vitamins and pepsid (I think thats the name). How about your diet? Are you doing okay? I can't wait till it over. Vicki, you were right- they really don't want me to bring to much to the hospital. Talk to you soon, Janine

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
