OK so today overall was a bad day. It started out well, went to the gym 1 hour cardio I felt really good after. I has a poached egg and 1/4 of o piece of wholemeal bread toast. lunch about 1/2 a cup of chicken salad (with a teaspoon of low fat mayo and 1 of low fat greek yoghurt) After noon I had 1 chocolate chip cookie, and 12 mini carale slices,i know i know, i shouldn't have done that, still in losing stage. Was out with the childre all afternoon came home starving. Had a few flakes of smoked salmon and a few spoonfulls of mashed potatoes, way to quickly and it all came back up again and I was sick, a horrible feeling of chest oppression and nausea, not nice at all. It might be TMI but just so others don't make my same mistake, always have healthy Snacks that you can tolerate when you're out and about so as to 1) not eat fattening junk 2) not arrive home starving and eat too quickly! I won't be doing that again for sure!

LOL reminds me of the story of a friend, who ate junk food then decided to go jogging. About a mile out, middle of nowhere, he develops explosive diarrhea. Funniest story ever when he tells it, but did remind me never to eat poorly before heading out on a trip.

Wait, I'm lost, what made you ill? The smoked salmon and mashed potato? I may not personally have eaten the potato but what's wrong with the salmon? Or was it a delayed reaction from the caramels?

ohhhh boy, gotcha! I did that once while eating a hot juicy hamburger patty, I got carried away and ate too big of bites too quickly. The pain was horrible and it was accompanied by what I guess is sliming. yuckville. After it passed I felt like I had a hangover.

terrible lesson wasn't it? I've had that happen! Especially since i never got rid of the hunger sensations . . i would get so hungry (or so i thought) and eat WAY too fast get the slimming thing, the "call me an ambulance" pain in my chest and major discomfort for 30 minutes. . . its a learning phase and we eventully will "get it". . . :)

Thanks for the reminder on eating. I have new sleeve. I took my daughter out to eat last night at Fresh Choice, mainly a salad bar. I knew I could not eat, but, boy, it did look good. I settled for small serving of cottage cheese and some Soup broth.

It would have been easy for me to take something I could not handle, but having read enough here to know not to go there.

They say this experience is behavior modification with a vengeance.

Eating too fast has been my biggest issue. Even if I don't eat so fast that it comes up, that has only happend a couple of times, I can eat so fast that i don't realize when I have had enough and I get nauseous after eating. This is a bit different than my experience with a well functioning band. I always knew when I had too much and it would just PB if I carried it too far but with the sleeve I find myself nauseous even though the food stays down if I eat too much too fast.

Sometimes I forget that I'm sleeved and if I eat while distracted I eat too fast! Yesterday I was on skype talking w my friend and I was eating chicken, and it happened again, i honestly forgot to eat slowly and it all came back up, and you would think I'd have learnt my lesson  yuck!

I need to lose about 100 pounds. Am seriously thinking about having the sleeve done...but when I read about how sick one can become...maybe I should think twice...I've eaten fast many times in my life...

Believe me, it is much easier to learn to eat more slowly and plan for Snacks than it is to remain 100 lbs overweight for the rest of your life!

I love my sleeve!

It's a habit to be broken. Honestly, it's not that difficult to overcome, and I was always a shoveler when it came to food. The faster I could pile it in, the more I could eat, and faster I could refill my plate.

You have to eat slow with any diet/exercise program, you have to be mindful of what you put in your mouth with any of the surgeries. Don't let one bad habit deter you from making a decision to better your long term health.

Also, at 22 months out, I eat like all my normal, skinny, naturally thin girlfriends. No faster or slower, just normal. How we eat pre-op is not normal, it's just "our" normal.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
