Sweet things taste wrong!

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

Yesterday I decided that I would treat myself to a small piece of chocolate. I know that sugar is not recommended during the weight loss phase, but I just wanted to see how I would feel about it post surgery and I was confident it wouldn't become a habit.

Honestly, it tasted wrong. It was WAY too sweet, artificial tasting, and left me with a sore throat and generally feeling like crap for a couple of hours.

So now I've learnt my lesson. :)

I can't believe after only two weeks my taste has changed so much.

I have seen that quite a few people here have found that sweet things no longer float their boat. I was wondering why this happens? I'm certainly not complaining, but am just interested. :)

Oh how weird :)

I will tell you I tried a starbucks caramel lite frap with sugar free caramel (my doctor said it would was fine), and it tasted TERRIBLE (used to be my favorite drink).

My family is hoping my taste buds have changed in their favor and that I will now love shrimp and crab now hahahahaha! I highly doubt it!

It doesn't last forever. I'm not sure on the science behind it. If it's the anesthesia, the ketosis with high Protein, all the hormones floating around in our bodies, but my tastes changed dramatically. I could not stand things sweetened with aspartame like Crystal Light, and other sugar free drinks. Splenda is the only sweetener I can stand.

NOW, sugar, real sugar, chocolate, candy all taste perfectly wonderful. . . My tastes reverted back to normal a few months post-op around 4.5-6 months out everything tasted lovely, and it helped with the whole "everything tastes like cardboard" issue.

Super normal, but thank heavens it goes away. Preop I could eat the spiciest of foods and adored it. The first few months post op I found mild salsa overwhelming! (and it made me mad.) But now I am able to eat most of the things I ate preop and enjoy them.

Hang in there!

Anna

I wouldn't say sweet things taste badly to me now, but I'm a lot more apathetic towards sweets. I've had half a cupcake and a few bites of a really good brownie since my surgery. They didn't taste funny, but they just weren't as satisfying as they used to be before surgery. I didn't really feel any desire to eat more, although I certaily had room for it.

I'm 9 weeks out and sweet things don't taste right to me either. I used to have a crazy sweet tooth. Brownies, donuts, Cookies. You name it. Now, I couldn't care less about sweets. My daily Protein Shake is good enough for me. I'm shocked about it acutally. I hope it stays that way.

Same here, sweet things taste "wrong" too sweet, not very nice, hubby can't believe it! And the strangest thing is that I don't even care!

I don't care for sweet things. Some make me feel horrible but some I just don't care for. I cant stand crystal light anymore and the biggest thing for me is diet coke. I don't like it anymore. I have a hard time because Im drinking nothing but Water and sometimes I really want something with taste but since I can't stand crystal light anymore and don't care for diet coke I can't find anything else that I can drink without a bunch of calories.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
