I'm scared ill never be off mushies!

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow brother and sister sleevers. I am a little sacred and am hoping you might be able to help me out. I am four weeks and 3 days post op. Three days ago the dietitian moved me to 'soft foods' and wanted me to start consuming Protein at every meal like deli meat, tuna, canned chicken, tofu...I have been fine with Soups, cream of wheat, mashed veggies, and all purred foods (including deli smoked turkey and chicken breast) but I am having extreme nausea and lots of discomfort with any sort of meat. I am beginning to feel like ill have to eat only purred foods for the rest of my life...Did any of you experience this? I am getting quite blue and a kind of scared:scared0:. Up to this point I have been doing well but this is like really upsetting. And I have been chewing and chewing and measuring....

Thank you for any suggestion or just reassurance you can provide that someday I will be able to eat somewhat normal food again.

It does get better with time. Early out I had some issues with certain foods that just a few weeks later I can eat fine now. Everyone heals at different rates. Some days I would have a completely bad sleeve day and just go back to mushies the whole day because I did not want to deal with it. As the weeks have passed I no longer have those types of days.

I'm sorry you have to go through this. I do think that it's gonna sort itself out though. Try keeping things moist, the bites tiny and eating time long.

It gets better. I didn't eat solid food until I was 3 months out. I stuck to soft foods, and mushies until then because it gave me a chance to get all my Protein in from food sources instead of drinking those disgusting Protein drinks.

I still eat lots of soft foods because honestly it's just easier. 4 bites (regular sized) of a chicken breast just doesn't do it for me anymore. I like to eat a bit more to ensure I get my calories and Protein in.

Thank you Swiftflow, Qured, and Tiffykins, this has been one of the roughest weeks for me. I am just having an incredibly hard time transitioning to soft solids. Much more then I ever imagined but it's so encouraging to hear your replies. Thank you all for putting me at ease!

It was very hard for me to move off liquids. I tried about 3 bites of anything and it was not fun. I drank my Protein drinks to make sure I got my Protein in, and tried a few bites every day. Eventually, it got easier.

It was much harder to move from mushie to solids, but it still was not easy to move from liquids to mushy either.

It just takes time. Try not to get discouraged.

It will get better. If your body isn't ready, it just isn't ready. Be patient, and I know it's tough, but try not to stress because that only makes it worse. The anxiety with eating (at least my experience) was that I felt like my stomach tightened down if I didn't relax.

Also, if you can tolerate it. Drink some very warm tea or broth before your meal. This helped relax my stomach before eating mushy foods when I first started.

We're here for ya, and don't feel like you're alone. Hang in there ! ! !

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
