I agree. I can't wait. I took a diuretic last night and so ya know I was up all night. In two hours I will see what this scale says.

blaqbeary -- edema sucks. all the more reason for you to have surgery.

dcokequeen -- that's awesome! i hope you get to see the surgeon soon!

down 6 now. i lost 2lbs this past week. after class tonight i am very optimistic about San Diego. we went over the criteria and i will be their patient. kaiser needs to do something for their patients. i think if they get another bariatric surgery center going north, alot more people can have the surgery quicker.

excellent, blaqbeary!

kaiser really does need to get it together. pretty soon, pacific bariatric will be backed up with kaiser people, too. they talked about that at the seminar i went to, and most of the people there were from kaiser. i'm glad i'm getting in before things get too out of control.

Hi thin2be!

The classes do go by fast, so do try to absorb everything. Personally, I was dreading having to do the classes, and I complained about having to go, but now having completed them, I'm really glad that I did.

I finished my classes on July8th. I did my blood work, chest x-ray and ekg about 1.5 weeks ago. Yesterday I had my final appt with dr to get referral. I chose the Lancaster facility as well. Every review I have read online about Dr Yadegar has been nothing but glowing. Plus they have another location in Santa Clarita (which is where I live) where I can do follow-up appointments. I called Lancaster yesterday and scheduled my consult appt. I asked the nurse about time-frames. She said that it will really depend on your medical conditions and if Dr Yadegar is requiring more tests. She said typically from consult to surgery, it can take 2-3 months, depending on their schedule. I'm hoping that since I'm a pretty easy case and don't have many other medical issues going on that I should be able to get in sooner than later. Dr Yadegar is on vacation in Aug so the soonest I could get my consult appt was Sept 9. I can keep you posted after my appt to let you know what their timeframe looks like.

thin2be -- contact your bariatric doctor's main nurse to ask about lancaster's wait time. that's the best source for this kind of info. let us know what you find out!

Thank you.

Yeah, I agree. I want to be in there before their wait list back-up.

Wow I am truly blessed. I do not have a co-pay ---only for outpatient, which is 10 bucks. Office visit is 10 also and prescriptions are 5. no lab fees and any special visits for referrals are 10, but depending on the procedure/visit.

I also checked with member services regarding my insurance with Pacific Bariatric and I was told as long as it is a referral from my doctor all fees will be the same as if Kaiser completed the procedure.

Mine is the same co pay as yours. $200.00 in hospital stay, office visits are $30.00. How will you get to San Diego? If you go there how long there for? Where will who ever drives you stay? These are the out of pocket expenses I am concerned about. I was hoping to get billed for these and make payments actually. I have before. So, SD Bariatric has local or somewhat local mandatory seminars to attend? I am off to bed, got my procedures early in the a.m. Glad I found you here. Was Kinda feeling lost... :001_tongue:

@Thin2be: At my appt on Monday, I asked Dr Alskaf about hospital stay. He said for the sleeve, it is usually a 1 night stay, usually because you will be scheduled for surgery in the afternoon and they want to keep you overnight to make sure everything is ok. Kristykreem said that the Pacific Bariatric is a 3 night stay. I guess it just depends on your facility. I'm really hoping that I have all my tests done and I'm ready to go when I go to my consult next month. Then hopefully I can get scheduled right away for surgery.

@blaqberry: So happy to hear that your co-pays will be so low! That's awesome!

@Thin2be: I don't think I have to attend an orientation with Lancaster. They said a lot of their patients are from Kaiser, so they know what we've already been thru as far as the Options orientation and the classes. I can confirm this once I see the Dr Yadegar next month. So excited to hear about your no co-pay. Awesome!! I'm still trying to figure out what my co-pays will be. I think I will contact Wenda to find out.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
