Congratulations!!!!! You should stock up on plenty of liquids (non carbonated). Some that worked good for me were V8 juice, Crystal light, and the yogurt smoothies. Also stock up on mashed potatoes, yogurts, Tomato Soup or any Soup that is not too chunky, and if you can handle it baby food. Get plenty of Protein shakes!! This is some of the stuff that you will need. The V8 juice was awesome. I got so tired of eating things that were sweet and not filling!! Pop sicles are also good for the swelling. Good Luck and keep us posted!

The band has definately changed my life! I would do it all over a thousand times! Something else that you might want to stock up on is childrens tylenol in the liquid form. My doctor gave me pain medicine but it made me so tired that i just used the tylenol for what little pain i did have. Good luck and be sure to keep us posted!

Actually,

Don't get the Chidren's Tylenol...it comes in liquid for Adults now...bought some at Walgreens...then you don't have to drink half the bottle to get some results!

Joyce,

Angela was very inclusive in her list. The only things I would add is Beano, Mylicon Drops for infants (for gas), liquid antacid (just in case you need it, I used it when I had burping, it was soothing). I have been drinking the liquid yogurts, they are great for Breakfast. if your doctor allows milk products.

Ham/turkey grated/ground up w/grated cheese and a little mayo tasted like heaven, eggs (these are for after the liquid phase).

I cooked Beans, chili (I puree w/melted cheese it for mushy phase) and made cream of spinach Soup and frozen'em for when I got back.

Tons, and tons of bottled water!!

Happy preparing. I know if you are like me I was sooo excited I could hardly stand myself. Sending thoughts for a uneventful banding and tons of success afterwards. You are on a new exciting adventure. Good Luck.

Carolyn

That is so funny, i love drinking the sugar free kool aid. That is what my doctor recommended for me because i despise water. As far as the potato Soup, it is usually different for everyone. Kind of like trial and error. I am not much of a cook so unfortunately i dont have any good recipes except for Campbells soup!!

I don't have an official recipe but this is what I do.

Saute chopped onion , celery, bell pepper until soft.

Add chicken broth either canned or made from boullion.

Add potatoes, chopped fine, boil until soft then puree with hand blender or blend small batches in blender.

Serve with dollop sour cream....yum.

Amounts of each depend on how much you want to make and your own tastes.

Hope this helps.

Hello Joyce:

Congrats on your upcoming surgery!! My hubby purchased a hand-held blender for me right after surgery, it was invaluable. I blended whatever I was in the mood for. (just added some hot water) sure helped get me through the full liquid stage. Another thought, I wished I had eaten salads till I couldn't eat anymore prior to surgery. I missed them so much during liquids and soft-food stages. Unless you have to go on liquid diet before surgery, I'd eat all the foods that will be added last.(steaks, salads etc)Good luck .........Gabby

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
