Starting to Love Exercise

Recommended Posts

I gotta say, I'm starting to really enjoy exercise.

Now that I'm 30 lbs. lighter than I've been in a long, long time, I'm really enjoying my "fitness" walks, and I find that my pace is MUCH faster if I even want to work up a sweat. The miles just fly by!

Today I did a walk up beautiful Elliott Ave. onto Alaskan Way, with the gorgeous Elliott Bay to my right, and all of Seattle's interesting, colorful people out with me! I got to walk past the Seattle aquarium up to the cruise terminal, before I had to loop back.

There's a flight of stairs at the Olympic Sculpture Park -- actually 3 flights of stairs, probably close to 100 steps. I was actually able to RUN up those steps and only be mildly breathless at the top. I love it!

Next step is, to get cleared for weightlifting again. That long-neglected gym isn't going to know what hit it!

Well, it'll happen.

All of a sudden, once I got around the 300 lbs. mark (which made me about 30 lbs. down from my "high water" mark), I noticed that:

  • I had WAY more stamina
  • My clothes didn't chafe when walking
  • My feet didn't hurt or get blistered
  • The FUN of walking and being outside vastly outweighed the discomfort.

I've always liked exercise on some level -- the idea of forcing my muscles to work and get stronger appeals to me. It's just that it was always so painful and so dang hard. But now that the pain and discomfort is going away, and it's just good honest sweat -- it's great!

You'll get there!

yuk, i've always hated exercise. . even when i was bodybuilding years ago. . but i just did it. . yesterday i started Water aerobics thinking that this might be a fun thing. . well, it's not as strenous as floor aerobics but boring same way. . . ugh, but i'll continue to go cause "its good for me" . . . good lord. . . oh and by the way, I posted some more pictures of my weight loss journey, can't really tell the difference, how disappointing! Loose 110 lbs all together and it's hardly noticeable. . . ugh. . .

That's great news! But you're making me so jealous with all the talk of Seattle. I find that exercise is so much easier the less you weigh and it's pretty fun if you find something you enjoy. Good luck on hitting the gym soon. Let us know how it goes.

When you're normal weight and your body is fit and strong, exercise is an absolute joy.

It just feels so great to run. I love to push myself really hard. I love to work hard enough to get the endorphin rush, its the best stress relief, it makes me feel great about my body, the benefits are soooooo much more than just losing weight. I dont even NEED to lose weight and I still exercise hard for an hour most days of the week, just because I love it and it keeps my weight stable.

As you lose weight, it really hits you just how hard you're asking your body to work to carry all that fat around. Obese people are not always weak and unfit, they puff and pant becuase they're working ten times harder than normal weight people.

Oh absolutely! My legs -- under the fat -- were like tree trunks of muscle. That's what you get from hauling around 330 lbs of man up and down hills. I'll be sad to say goodbye to some of that muscle (since hauling around 210 lbs will be much less "every day" exercise), but I'm thrilled to find out that I can walk at almost a jogging clip now without getting out of breath!

I lost half a shoe size since my surgery because I lost 30 pounds...so that's how much more weight was pressing down on my feet causing my arches to flatten and my feet to be longer!!! I am litterally "LIGHTER" on my feet! I agree I feel like I can go so much faster when I walk and will begin to run when my weight is down more because I don't want to hurt my knees or ankles...I am right with you with the excercise..it's wonderful...keep it up...

congratulations on your weight loss...Seaview

Thank you! My feet are MUCH more comfortable now that I'm about 40 lbs. down from my high point. I just bought a new motorcycle and when my girlfriend bought me some new riding boots as a birthday present, we were surprised to discover that instead of an 11 wide, I just wear an 11! That's a pleasant side benefit -- shoes should fit much better and be much easier to find in my size!

Who knows, maybe my "fallen arches" will improve, too! :crying:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
