About how much loss equals a pant size?

Recommended Posts

My main goal, prior to ever considering surgery, was to get back into single digit jeans. I didn't even care what the scale said - so long as it looked good! lol

I feel pretty confident now that I will make it into 8's. A very long time ago, I did wear 5's and 7's. My lowest adult weight, after 2 babies, was 118 - and I didn't look healthy at all, too skinny and gaunt. I have no intention of even trying to get that low again.

Nice that we even have to think about losing too much weight! LOL What a difference a surgery makes! : )

Oh it is SO exciting!!! I still have that huge fear this wont work for me but as I have seen on here everybody has that fear so I know that is normal.

My mom bought this huge lot of clothes from this company last year. You dont ever know what will be in there so when she got them there were so many nice things in 16's, 14's and smaller. So i got some of the 14's and I have held on to them in hopes of the "one day" I cant believe that may around the corner

I'm pretty square with most of my blubber in my gut. I'm 5'7" and just hit 70 pounds down with a weight of 184 - big bones too. I'm in 10's and 12's depending on the manuf. Smallest I've ever been was an 8. Hoping to reach a freeking 6!!!!!! Oh, when I started, at 254, I was bursting out of 18's. My legs and butt have always been smaller than my top half though, as my shoulders are very broad, my gut is big and my boobs are still wrinkly, saggy 38D's... TMI, sorry...!

Good luck!

Right now I'm in 20's and 22's depending on the clothes. So to go down to a 14 would thrill me!

Well don't be afraid to aim high either with your goals. I went to the shrink for my preop appointment and said I'd be happy if I got down to 200 lbs and she said that lots of people who are obese can't envision themselves at lower weights or have struggled with dieting for so long that they won't set too big of goals, I am sure you can get to a size 14 or 12, but if its what you really want, I bet you could do a 10 too. Good luck!

Its amazing the variation in size given a persons weight. I guess it has a lot to do with where we store it.

I'm shooting for an 8 too and have even dreamed of a 6 when I read some of the success stories - I've NEVER been an 8 that I can remember. I joke that I went from a 6X to a 14 and it's gone up from there!! :tongue2: Surgery is two weeks from this Friday....it IS fun to think about a year from now!!

I'm shooting for an 8... I have never ever been an 8... Isn't it fun to fantasize about where we will be this time next year

I'm hoping for a size 10 when all is said and done. I think that is realistic, however it's been so long since I wore that size. I wonder how much age, etc will play a part, because I know my body is different. Oh well, have to wait and see. But, yes just imagining it is very exciting.

I just wanted to add that once you get down to the 14, 12, 10 size range, you could skip sizes even with minimal loss on the scale when you lose inches. I skipped sizes, and while I loved it, I was mad that I bought clothes as "goal pants". When I went to try them on, they were too big with the tags on them. Thank goodness for me keeping receipts and store credit LOL.

I'm 123lbs at 5'2", and I wear anywhere between a 4 and 6 in pants, 5-7 in junior sizes, and small tops (typically size 2 or 4). Dressy dresses are weird for me, I can squeeze into some 6s, but mainly 7s or 8s. Sun dresses, and casual wear dresses are typically a size 3 or 5.

If I remember correctly, at 5'2" (I carried all my weight in my stomach, boobs and some in my hips, no butt at all) and weighing 148ishlbs I think I was in a 10 most of the time. I skipped 12s if I remember correctly, straight from 14s to 10s. I have this craptastic belly fat roll that I can't lose. It is quite a bit of skin, but fat is still filling it out. If I lost that part of me, I'm fairly sure I'd be a size 2 or smaller.

Yea I am 5'3" and 202lbs and am in between 16 and 14's. Its weired. I guess it depends on the brand. Old Navy I'm 14 but Gap and New York and Co I'm still 16, well sometimes 14 if they have a little stretch .. it really depends on your body I guess. I have a smaller waist but big booty and thighs ... hmmmm??? I want to be a 10.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
