Hello

I've not posted for a while, mainly been lurking and enjoying the talk on here. You are all so supportive and should be really proud of yourselves.

I'm having a problem, I started my pre-op diet on the 12th May 2010 and have been good for 2 of 4 of those days. I'm having trouble sticking to it. I have 5 pints of milk and 1 slim-a-soup and 1 sachet of sugar free Jello a day. I also had to do this diet for 4 weeks about 2 months ago and did stick to it, but not completley. I've lost 2 stone so far and feel really good because of this. I have 9 days left until my surgery and I'm now so scared my surgeon will take one look at my liver and close me up. Do you think I still have time to shrink my liver? :001_tongue:

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Michelle xx

You do nto need to worry. Unless your liver is "abnormal" already. The Dr. will not close you up for a slippery liver. Theposts I have seen on here fro NURSES, all say you cannot shrink/unslime your liver in 6 weeks. It takes a year or better. The pre-op diet is usually to get some weight off and get you in diet mode for the weeks following surgery. It is a good mind altering tool. Try your hardest, you know you want this. Just keep reminding yourself you want a better life and suffering thru a diet for a few weeks is small price to pay for that better life.

You can do it.

Keep posting, Good luck!

My pre-op diet was only 7 days so just keep on focusing on how close you are and that you can do it! One thing that helped me was making a list of all the things I wanted and how my life would be different after I lost weight and became healthier. Then during those times when I thought I couldn't do it anymore I would read over the list. You can do it!

I cannot answer your question, but I understand how hard it is. I am now on day 11 of my liquid diet. Stay strong.

Hi Michelle

I don't even know what my pre op diet is yet, and fear I will have the same sticking issues... but hope I have the strength behind me to stick with it.

My advice to you - 9 more days for something which will change the rest of your life??

Its a no brainer.... try to occupy your mind with anything other than food, clearing out cupboards, clothes, borrow some good films off someone... get stuck into a good book....go to bed! lol!!!

Coachs idea is good with listing the reasons why you want to do this, and perhaps stick that on your fridge with a really bad photo of you that you hate???

Good luck - and so many congrats on the 2 stone loss - amazing!!!

Kathy

Hi Michelle

I wasn't asked to do a pre-op diet (sleeved in Belgium on 5 May) - but for the 3 weeks before I did stay low fat and stopped drinking any alcohol and lost 7lbs. So I am sure you'll be fine!

Since the surgery I'm feeling great and am moving slowly onto mushies now although surgeon said I could try soft solids after 10 days but I think they might stick a bit!

The major thing I have found is to keep drinking the Water this seems to be beneficial to every aspect of the weight loss. Since surgery I have lost 10lbs - which is great. Also my skin and hair haven't looked so healthy in years!

We can all only do the best we can - so just try to stick with it as much as possible and everything will be good.

Just keep on your diet, and try to lose as much as you can. This will help you post surgery. If your liver is too hard to handle they will open you up to do the procedure, rather than laproscopically. Now that I have you scared, don't worry. I seldom ever hear of them not doing it laproscopically. A heavy liver just makes it harder on them. Best of luck, and this week try hitting 3 out of 4 days )

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
