Let me know how this goes for you - my surgery with Dr. Patel is June 28. I'll be starting my pre-op diet in 7 days. Any suggestions or advice?

Good luck Zephra and all others!!

I wrote a note, and stuck it, eye level on the fridge - "DON'T EAT!!!"

I have to say it helped!!! Maybe get your worst photo and add it to it...and stock up for food for anyone else in the house in advance - the less you have to deal with food when you can't eat it the better IMO!!

Good luck

Kathy

My surgery is also scheduled for June 10 at 7:30 AM. Getting very nervous and wondering if I am doing the right thing... I guess there is always some questioning as to whether surgery is the right thing, am I obese enough to need it, etc.

I guess I will know the answer tomorrow.

PS How do you put the cool bmi/weight loss ruler at the bottom of your post?

I havn't figured out yet how to get the ticker ruler to show up on mine. I thought when I pasted in the link it would convert but I was wrong. Any assistance is appreciated.

As for your worries, I know exactly how you feel. I even had a doctor (not my surgeon) and a nurse tell me I didn't look like I was heavy enough for the surgery, but at 5 feet and 200 lbs, the scales don't lie.

I had gotten nervous before the surgery also so I guess it's pretty normal to have those thoughts, but it was over so fast it was amazing.

It's been a week yesterday for me and I have had I suppose a normal recovery. One thing I did find out was if you feel nauseous but not in pain (which was how I felt), take pain med anyway, it has an affect on nausea plus you feel much better and feel more like moving around. The PA told me that and boy what a difference.

Good luck!

SAS,

I went to tickerfactory.com and was able to cut and paste the ruler. When I transferred the ruler over, it came as just the url, but once I entered my post, it showed the ruler. The other thing is that I used the ruler for forums, not blogs...

Thanks for your reassuring words and I will make sure that I keep myself drugged up! How long did you stay in the hospital?

I stayed overnight, which I think is fairly common unless you have a switch or by pass, which I did not.

I will be thinking of you tomorrow and it's good your surgery is early, mine was at 12 so I had developed a hummer of a headache by that time from no coffee. Go ahead and expect to feel crummy for about 18 hours, just in case ... heck you just had surgery, but it gets better fast after that. All the folks in the hospital and my doctors office were just the best in the world. Could not have asked for more kind considerate and caring people to take care of me. That means so much!

Thanks for the ruler tip, mine copied over as a ruler, but I'll have to wait to see if it stays in.

Good luck!

:):thumbup1::thumbup1:Hi there, I had my surgery on June 5th, everything went so smoothe. I wasn't even that much pain to be honest, I was more tired then anything. I stayed in the hospital for 2 nights. I was actually bored the 2nd day and the Doctor told me that if you are bored you are doing well..lol..I got up a walked A LOT...both due to boredom and knowing that the more that you walked the better you should feel! Overall the experience was awesome, I would do it again tomorrow in a HEARTBEAT! My wounds are healing very nice and I do have a lil bit of gas pains once in a while, but nothing to serious, so anyone thinking about doing, DO IT!!! It will be sooooo worth it! Can't wait for the pounds to start falling off!! Good luck to you all...I am SO excited to be on the LOSERS bench, FINALLY!!!! If anyone has questions just ask me!!!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Getting kind of nervous because I've suddenly developed a rash over on my right side, just where my boob fold is and it looks angry deep red. I'm putting cortaid on it and trying not to scratch it, but I've already got a weak immune system and I'm starting to worry that something will blow up and my surgery will get bumped. :)

So nervous that something's going to happen now that I'm finally so close! Argh I hope everything clears up before the weekend is over so I'm good to go on Monday. I soooo want to be on the other side!!!!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
