I was sleeved a week ago and on my next diet stage it say to avoid corn and potato. Do you know why? And this stage is pureed food but what can happen if I have a bite or two of solid food?

You could rip the staple line! :tongue_smilie: Also could barf. Don't take the risk. Go slow its worth it.

Corn and potatoes are high carb. Also corn is difficult to digest. I still don't eat corn, because if I do, hours later I burp it up. It's pretty gross.

Your stomach is healing. Progressing your diet can cause stress on your staple line, induce vomiting, causing stress on your staple line, food can get stuck in the staple line thus causing stress on your staple line, long story short, it's a big risk of causing a leak which is extremely painful, long exhaustive recovery, and other complications. Stick to the program in just a couple of weeks you can try out more solid foods. Let your body heal properly.

The first couple of weeks are hard, I know... but you have to do everything you can to protect your staples and new, tiny-tummy. This isn't "food" time... is what I kept telling myself... "it's healing time". At a couple of weeks out your body is still getting the Ghrelin out of your system, which will make you feel hungry, which I experienced, and I won't deny it was hard. BUT, you can make it through. I'd really wait to start anything other than clear or full liquids until you have to move to food... It's worth it to you and your healing sleeve.:smile:

I am on my 4th week and when they said I could have re fried Beans.... oh man they were awesome... now I tried ground beef for the first time... I don't like it :001_tongue:

What the heck just happened to me... I love yogurt and soft foods now... ACK!!!

Just hang in there and it will be easier!!

If you have a Kroger or Fred Meyer near you, I would suggest trying some of the CarbMaster Yogurt. It's a great source of protein/low carbs and very filling (if you add 1/2 scoop of unflavored Protein powder, you get even more Protein and no change in taste).

This is hard time, but follow your instructions. They were written to help you heal and maximize your weightloss.

As noted above refried Beans were AWESOME when I got to the puree stage. Also, try pureed chili and Campbell's Beef Vegetable - they are higher in carbs, but the little you eat shouldn't be a problem. They have a lot of flavor and can satisfy that need to "eat" real food.

Best of luck!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
