I'm losing my hair!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I've been told by others that they took all these things as well, and that it did not help. Hair loss is normal for weight loss surgery. If you read online about hair loss, it says it comes from a shock to the body, such as surgery, or weight loss.

Everyone can try any supplements that they wish to try to prevent it, but I've read in other forums about people taking all these things, and lost hair anyway.

I used Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner for 6 months after surgery and it didn't do anything for me, other than dry out my hair.< /strong>

Geesh...one more worry. I am pretty close to my goal 25-30lbs. Do you think I will still lose hair? ?:scared0:I didn't with the lapband, as a matter of fact I grew my hair out! I always had short hair. I am loving my hair, please say it isn't so!!!:confused1:

:sad0:Is this Hair loss a hundred percent phenomenon? Do all the people who have gotten the surgery done experienced that? I already have thinning hair and with this effect i would have to stay indoors now for my hair loss.:confused1:

My hair was shedding about as much as my two cats! When I washed my hair that's when I was grabbing fist fulls of hair and shocked at how much I was shedding. I have been taking bioitin and Evening Primrose oil once or twice a day and I noticed the last time I shampoo'd the amount of loss was decreased significantly. I now have (no bald patches) but a very thin sparse looking head of hair. I still dye the roots back to brown, since I've had gray/silvers since age 21! I too resigned myself to buying a wig if necessary. But, I am confident that it's slowing down as my ability to eat Protein increases...I think after a while my system will adjust and hopefully soon I'll see some new growth. Summer is coming and my hair usually grows faster during the summer.

I think I'll try using the Shampoo and conditioner that Tiff is using I bet it will help. Thanks Tiff.

Stuck, I lost most of my weight with the band too. I lost lots of hair with band surgery and lots more with sleeve surgery, even though I hadn't gained that much back so I didn't have much weight to lose this time either.

Maybe since you didn't lose hair with band surgery, you won't this time either.

Hope, there is no way to know. My friend had sleeve surgery a week after me, and she didn't lose nearly as much hair as I have.

I didn't lose any hair with my band surgery. I lost about 23 pounds within the first 2-3 months, but never had Hair loss.

I lost major amounts with the sleeve. I just recently noticed a little more coming out in the shower and I'm 3 weeks out of gallbladder surgery. I'm not sure if it's just normal shedding, or if it's a result of another surgery.

why would you cut your hair? I have really long hair (to my butt and I'm 6 foot tall) there is no way i'm cutting it, what is to be is to be. . .that is how i look at it, plus with more hair, you can do neat things to hide the thinning. . . good luck

Ok, now I am petrified. My hair started thining due to stress years ago. You can see through it now. I wonder if I will go bald? This is the first time I've heard about this drastic Hair loss issue.

Thanks for the tips!!!

Has anyone also taken Pre-natal Vitamins? That's what my Dr. told me, although I'm gonna add the Biotin as well. I'm only 3 weeks post op but just in case I'm starting now with all these supplements. I have very thin and few hair to start with so I'm very worried! :drool5:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
