Advice for Road Trip

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are going with several other couples on a road trip tour to the Grand Canyon and ending up in Vegas for a MINI Cooper gathering in late March. (Kids are staying with grandparents - so it's just the 2 of us in the car with friends ahead of us & behind us in their cars.)

I am SUPER excited about the trip, but not sure how to prepare food-wise. Any hints for what type of food to take, exercise options, fastfood/restuarant ordering, etc? We will be gone about 10 days. I will be 2 months post-op by the time we leave.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I agree, beef or turkey Jerky would be good. Also maybe some Protein Bars. I just bought this book [ame=http://www.amazon.com/This-Thousands-Simple-Swaps-Pounds/dp/1594868549]Amazon.com: Eat This, Not That! Thousands of Simple food Swaps that Can Save You 10, 20, 30 Pounds--or More! (9781594868542): David Zinczenko, Matt Goulding: Books[/ame] from the store the other day because I found it very interesting while browsing through. It may help make some decisions regarding fast food although you of course would not eat the bread and side(s) suggested. Good luck!

We are making a giant loop from Seattle, to Grand Canyon, to Las Vegas, and back to Seattle. I think there are 10 cars in our group. In Vegas there are usually 500-600 MINI owners. We all drive down the strip on Friday night (3/26) & it is a blast!

I would bring lots of bottled Water, maybe some individual crystal lite packets and string cheese. In addition, you may want some pudding in the individual ups. You don't have to refrigerate any of this stuff... have fun..Don't forget your vitamins!!!!!!

Pork rinds? Really? I'm going on a road trip mid March, but I'll be with 4 children. You are so lucky to be without the kids, Mini-me :laugh0:

LOL Pork rinds are low to no carb, higher in Protein that any other type of salty, crunchy chip product. I absolutely love the hot-n-spicy ones.

There a nice crunchy, salty flavorful treat to have occasionally, and they practically dissolve once chewed.

They're even Atkins approved.

I also recommend Protein bars. Protein plus are good, and I think they were on sale at Kroger this week (didn't look closely, but saw lots of yellow tags down that aisle). Also, if you like crunchy ones, south beach living makes protein crisp bars in chocolate Peanut Butter that are pretty good and 12 g protein. I also take nuts. Emerald Nuts makes a cocoa flavored almond that's sweetened with sucralose and are to die for. Trader joes sells "just a handful" individual serving packets of almonds, too, and they travel really well. It would be so easy to pack apples and Peanut Butter for Snacks, or a light bread with peanut butter. All very yummy.

Have fun!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
