Swollen bulge above incision, normal?

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve done on Monday and besides the normal adjustments and pain, I am doing fairly well. I have one big concern, above my largest incision, the skin is all swollen and pouching out over the incision. I am worried that it may be a hernia or something in using the muscles too much getting up and down. I can press against it and it flattens out, but I am concerned. Any advice?

Call your surgeon 1st thing monday morning. It may be nothing; however it is better to know WHAT it is than to have to worry about it.

Yes it could be hematoma, not trying to scare you here, and it can easily be treated. Just get it looked at asap. It may also just be scar tissue but you won't know until you get it checked out. I had a hematoma and it was soon sorted out with antibiotics so don't get into a panic x

Sounds like a hernia to me.

Hi, I am having the same thing and wondering if you ever figured out what it was? I'm 15 days out verything seems to be going fairly well but I just noticed in the shower that there was a bulge above that incision. I have a call into my surgeon but I am very nervous about it!

I had the exact same thing and was assured that as long as it is soft and not tender, it is perfectly normal. They did most of the "heavy" work through that incision and it puffs up with Fluid. Give it some time (3 or 4 weeks) and it will finally go away. I actually had a brand new hospitalist and she ordered an sonogram of the bulge the day of my discharge. The surgeon and PA were appalled that she would do something like that! LOL.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
