Thank you Norma Soon2b and Lan. Yes, all of you should eat some extra Protein in my honor. I can't believe it's been 30 hours since I have had food and I am not hungry .

Gotta love the sleeve.

I am sure that is why they are keeping me locked up in here. Eating would inflame my pancreas and if I was home on my own, I know I would sneak something!

Daisy - tell them to put extra Protein in your IV!

Hang in there - I agree with Tiff that the gas will probably go away once the gallbladder is out - excess flatulance is one of the signs of gallbladder issues.

I know you would have preferred to "wait" until after the 1st of the year - however, look at it this way - you'll be feeling better before Christmas - and it's xtra $$ to add onto your medical for tax purposes. (Trying to think of the positives here!)

Gallbladder is a consiquence of weight loss. At least that was what I was told after emergency surgery to remove mine. I had been on a weight loss diet and dropped 30+ lbs. (2003) I had a steak for dinner and then threw up all night. went to the hospital in a ambulance. So much pain! I had a gall stone stuck in the duct. The surgeon said it is the most common mis-diagnosed problem in the U.S. I had been taking Alka-selsers, pepto bismal, and acid reducers for months. sleeping sitting up, or, with a "wedge" of pillows. I had complained of sever pain under my right boob. My PCP never picked it up. Had words with him about that.

Once the gall bladder was out and I had recovered, I felt so darn good. I lost more weight and kept it off for about a year before it started creeping back.

We do not need our gall bladders to function. So, if you need to get yours taken out, go for it. It is not worth the pain, and drastic measures necessary to keep it.

Oregon daisy, I am so sorry you have to go thru the pain, you will feel so much better when the gall bladder is gone. try not to worry about your hair, it will grow back. Can you ask for Proteins in your IV? Just kidding.

Get well, be healthy. I am sending Angels to be by your side. God bless.

I've been having gall bladder problems for a couple of months. I was trying to hold out until January since I have $1,000 deductible. Last night I was in so much pain, I had to go to the ER.

It turns out the gall stones blocked a duct and now I have

pancreatitis. The only thing that fixes that is nothing by mouth until further notice. I guess I will be losing that last 5 lbs that is so hard to lose.

I would imagine I will be having surgery sometime this week.:scared0:

What a bummer! But it is true that adding this to the VSG expense will be better for your tax refund than if you had it next year. Lemonade from lemons!

My gallbladder been out for about 10 years and it was not any more painful surgery than the sleeve, hopefully you will have the same feeling after the surgery. I presume it will be done by lap and not open.

Pancreatitis is no fun and it is good that you are getting the proper treatment...am sure you are already feeling better since you are resting the GI tract...

Let us know how much weight you lost once you get home...after your body dumps all the extra IV Fluid they are pumping into you. Keep your chin up! We are all rootin' for you!

Thank you Susan, Thinoneday, Vegas,

Cajun and Carolyn! It's good to hear most people say it's an easy recovery. I was reading at that other board last night, and someone was saying they were in a lot of pain. It freaked me out.

They said they will be taking me to surgery sometime after noon today.

My levels in my pancreas went from over 4,000 which they said was in the scary rate, and today it's a few hundred.I am glad it's surgery day today instead of tomorrow like they thought, cause I was going buggy with boredom in this place yesterday. I want to start recovering.

The nurse told me the IV fluids were 20 calories per hour. That means I had 200 calories yesterday. This is a good thing!

Daisy,

I am sorry to hear about your trouble...but in the long run it will be so much better. I had my gallbladder removed 12yrs ago. Thank God is all I can say....I endured so much pain so I can definitley relate to what you are going through. Speedy recovery and I look forward to hearing how you are doing.

Great!

You probably know this already, but expect diarrhea if you eat anything with fat in it. I had that off and on for over a year after gallbladder surg. Not so much after that.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
