Hey,

As a recent VSG'er, almost 2 months ago. I remember how nervous and scared I was. If it wasnt for these boards, I think I would have backed out! However, it wasnt a bad experience for me at all, my surgery was pleasant and complication free. My surgeon made me feel so calm, I prayed and left it in Gods hands.

You will be fine, its normal to be nervous, however, the worst part for me was the days leading up to surgery (wondering if I would survive the surgery, would I have a leak, would I wake up, etc). However, we must remember the risks of those things happening are relatively low. Also, I considered my risks if I stayed overweight and that outweighed the surgical risks.

Now im about 7 wks out- 40+ lbs down and feeling fantastic! Its so worth it, im about 60 lbs away from my goal weight! I cannot believe im almost halfway to goal at about 2 months! Its so worth it! food does not control my life anymore, I have to remember to eat (set alarms), its an unbelievable sense of freedom!

Good luck on your VSG journey, keep us posted!

wow , thank you so much its amazing how sharing an experience makes me feel better thanks. How did you do with your pre-op diet?

The liquid preop diet was not all that bad too me. I guess because I knew that it was neccessary and I did not want to risk having the surgeon knick my liver from it being too large. But then again, I only had to do a preop diet for about a week but I ended up doing it for a week and a half because I felt that my eating the days prior were out of control. I had gained about a good 10 lbs.....I think I was stressed and just trying to "cope" my preop nerves, so I started the diet earlier than he said to. Which was okay, once I set my mind too it, I was fine!

Please look at this like a great opportunity, be thankful that you can have the surgery (some want it but cant afford it, dont qualify, etc). We are really blessed. Just try to focus on how you will look when its all over! Thats what I did. LOL

Hello,

I am scared as well. When I rec'd the letter from the insurance company stating I was approved I got very nervous and scared. The doctor's office called me this morning to schedule my surgery. I am having surgery on 11/30/09 and going to start my liquid diet on 11/16/09. I have to order my pre op kit asap.

Hi everyone.

Don't feel wobbly! Scared is normal. . how would it sound if you said "Yeah, I'm getting surgery" . . . honey, it is normal to feel scared, this will be my 18th major surgery, and after the last 17, I'm still here! Each and every time I have surgery I do the "what ifs" and guess what, I'm still here to keep wondering about the "what ifs" . . . your not the first patient your doctor is doing this surgery on, he/she is not new to the surgery, they will take care of you and I'm very confident that they have done this hundreds of times. . .your given relaxing meds before surgery and if your like me and are allergic to every narcotic on this world including the relaxation meds, then they can give you this really nice IV med call Benadryl 50mg IV. . . I love benadryl, makes your eyes go funny and you feel silly and REALLY sleepy! sleep for hours after surgery so that when you wake up you are past the nausea feelings and feel good. . . they use that on me all the time. . . but don't worry so much, you'll give yourself an ulcer! Put your faith and trust into the doctor, they know what they are doing. . .

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
