almond, rice, hemp milk (lactose intolerant)

Hi Ivy, I have watermelon in my fridge right now! I can start it tomorrow and can't wait. I also bought some yogurt. It takes me about an hour and a half to drink a Protein Shake, how are you doing with it? I am able to drink normally pretty much which is nice, but try to take small drinks.< /p>

I don't know what fancy Jello is but make sure you puree that cantalope unless it is super ripe. When I started full liquids my stomach was NOT impressed with anything it had to digest too much.

Good luck tomorrow Ivy. Just go slow and easy. I have a watermelon just calling my name.

I think I might just make a smoothie first. I am a little afraid of something getting stuck.

I was not aware that fruit was included in full liquids. It seems like the fibers in it would upset the sleeve at the full liquids stage. ???? At the very least it seems it should be a "mushie".

I have been on full liquids for 3 days and my sleeve was not happy with cream of chicken Soup the first night. I had some awful spasms so backed off to clears for a couple of more days. Today

it is doing OK with the cream of chicken Soup. Guess it was having a "bad soup day" or something. Just gotta listen to it and back off when it's cranky! I sure was glad to have the toradol sublingual when the spasms started...they are pretty awful. I came real close to vomiting...was sitting in front of the toilet just trying to think of something else...and luckily it passed after about 10 minutes or so. Lucky me.

I'm not going to try any fruits until I am on solids. Maybe the fact that I had a hiatal hernia repair makes it a bit more "touchy" too. So far, I'm getting in all the liquids and Proteins necessary, and am doing some treadmilling too. I am so pleased with all the post-op instructions from Dr Aceves and his staff, as well as advice from this forum. Being informed in advance of things that can happen, and how to manage them, makes the process so much easier.

I have hit a little stall the past 3 days, but I suppose this is the usual adjustment period. So I'm going to try hard to stop weighing daily now, and just do it once a week. It's so hard to do that because I love seeing it go down!...but when it doesn't budge...not so much!

Cajun, you are right. I got my papers back out and I don't see anywhere about when we can have fruit. I will e-mail Gabby tomorrow.

It takes me about that long to drink a Protein Shake too. Crystal light goes down a lot faster. Wonder why? I can take a couple of sips at once but I still have to wait or I get a really tight feeling in my chest.

Heh, I meant like cheesecake flavoured Jello, stuff that's probably creamy.

Great advice on the canteloup, thanks! I think I'll start one food at a time in case my stomach rebells.

This is what I got from Gaby right after my surgery ... here is what is allowed on FULL Liquids:

Day 11 thru 20 ( full liquids )

Yogurt

Jello-O

Boiled pureed fruit ( example apple, pear) applesauce

Watermelon, papaya or melon in small pieces

Low fat milk 1 or 2%

Water, Propel, tea

Soy beverages

sugar free pudding

Protein shakes and Protein powders mixed with milk

Just make sure you either mush the fruit or cut them in REALLY tiny pieces otherwise you'll be in pain!

This is great to know. I'm going to get some papaya and blend it in my shake. It has wonderful healing properties. Years ago when I had a small skin cancer removed on my face, the plastic surgeon recommended I eat some daily to speed the healing of bruises...it really worked! He had actually done some research on this.

meat tenderizer is made from papaya, so it sounds like it just dissolves old cells away! I don't like the taste so much, but blended into a shake, it will be edible.

VegasAngel - thanks so much for that great list - I printed it out and stuck it on my cupboard as a reminder! Unless something is there is my face telling me what to do, I tend to 'freelance', hence all my bloating issues which are now mostly gone. I hope that you will post another list at our 'mushy' stage. Off to grocery shop for some different Soups and some soymilk (regular milk doesn't seem to like me much right now). Thanks again. :001_tt2:

Vegas,

Can you print the entire list from Dr Aceves from day 1 through the end of mushies? I need to begin thinking about what I need in the way of groceries.

Ivy

Hey Ivy,

How are you doing? I started full liquids Friday night with cream of chicken Soup mixed with Water to be safe will mix with milk next time. It took me two days to eat it, but I ate it slowly and did great. I also had a Atkins shake, drank it slowly and it was fine also. I'm back on clears today as I have an upper respiratory infection and not feeling well at all. I know I should be feeling great from the surgery but with this lingering I'm not on top of my game yet - but will be very soon! Good luck to you and I still need to get our pictures posted but have been on here very limited. Will PM you once they are posted.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
