On a positive note, what comforted you most during your hospital stay?

Recommended Posts

Haven't been sleeved yet (Mon, 28th) but when I had my knee replacements last year, I LOVED the fact they covered me with HEATED cotton blankets while being wheeled in and out of the surgical theater.

And all the back rubs, hand massages, and bless them for letting me have a catheter through out, as I know I would have wet the bed otherwise!

Please chime in with your fav's.

Hi, I'm just out of the hospital Sept.20 after having my sleeve surgery on the 15th so my hospital stay is fresh in my mind. Ditto on the warm cotton blankets and massages, although there were only a couple of choice nurses and student nurses who were exceptional in their care and dedication to me personally THEY made my hospital stay most comforting and memorable. I would have preferred a private room, that said, the 2 patients to the left of me, (I had the window bed), were extraordinary women both were a pleasure to get to know and yes a comfort as well. I wish I could say more but with the sleeve there isn't much to speak of when it came to meals. My last surgery in Stony Brook Hospital, NY, was for an incisional upper abdominal hernia and I was allowed to eat and that hospital had an unbelievable menu!!! All the food was catered from a local gourmet restaurant that has GREAT food. At that time having such unreal meals/snacks etc. was a huge comfort. Anyway best wishes to your upcoming surgery, if you have any other concerns or questions feel free to pm me anytime...I'm at home recovering. God bless.

You won't get warm blankets or massages in Mexicali. You will get instant response if you push your call button and clean rooms. Lots of checking on by Dr. Aceves and/or Dr. Campos and his staff. The most comforting thing for me was Bearded being there with me and Ruthi & Eyfura being there to share the same experience with me at the same time.

I didn't get any massages!

My husband there was the best thing for me. He is my best friend and the love of my life. That man is the most awesome human being. I felt safe and loved.

Next best thing was my Ipod touch. I watched movies when I couldn't sleep too! I loaded all my comfort movies and watched them.

The organizational expertise of the staff was very comforting. When I notified the coordinator that my connecting flight was missed due to weather, Monica immediately rearranged my hotel stay, ride to Mexicali, preop labs and surgical time so that I knew everything would be fine once I

arrived . What a MAJOR relief that was!

When I first arrived in my room, Dr Aceves brought all the other pre-op gals in for a group session, and he gave us a lot of information and recommendations on how to make this a successful journey toward healthier living. His kindness, willingness to listen/answer questions, and obvious commitment to help us be successful was so very comforting from the very start. He loves his life work and it was so obvious.

After surgery, the frequent visits by Dr Aceves and Dr Campos and their prompt attention to all of my concerns was so very reassuring.

There was NO delay when I needed pain control, and it was offered even more than I needed it.

Having other sleeve sisters there to visit and help each other out was also very, very comforting.

I agree 100% with everything you've said Cajun (except for the part of the delayed plane, as I didn't have to worry about that!)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
