At what point can you be reasonably sure that "leak" danger has passed?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if there is some point when you can be pretty sure that the danger of a leak has passed?

Hi KayKay,

I do not know the answer to this question either and am interested to see what the replies would be.

I was an idiot to not ask questions about signs of a leak, how long until the danger is minimal, and things like that.

Now I worry myself alot about leaks..

Hope people chime in soon with the answers they have for you and me!!

Hugz,

Penny~

I think the risk of a leak is lessoned after 6 weeks. That's why it's so important to follow the post op diet.

I figure that the 30 day mark would be an indication that the doctors think that the danger is pretty much over since they wouldnt let you have solid foods otherwise.

On OH, there was a lady who had a leak at 7 months post-op. . . She said she had symptoms that were dismissed for 4 months. My surgeon told me that leaks are a concern for at least 3-6 months post op, and even further out, if a patient makes bad food choices, overeats and vomits.

I spoke with Gaby at Dr Aceves office today and asked her this question. She told me that the risk of leaks become minimal at 3 months. She also told me that you should not be swallowing any pills until 3 months out either. Said she knew of people who did after 1 month and that they didn't have any problems but the Dr's response to the question is after 3 months post op...

Other doctors tell different lengths of time concerning both of these, your doctor's opinion may differ from what Dr A's office told me today..

Hugz,

The two biggies are high fever and unexplained intense pain.

But there are others including: rapid heart rate, dizziness, shortness of breath, abdominal distention, the appearance of illness and a general feeling that something is very wrong.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
