How are you doing today, Bob? I saw VA's photos of you walking around, so you must be doing well. That's great. My turn is coming up on August 10th, so am looking forward to hearing everyone's stories who is having surgery now leading into August. Can't wait!! Just want to get it all over with and back home to recover.:laugh0:

Bearded isn't doing quite as well today as yesterday -- maybe too much dancing yesterday afternoon? He had a rough night - sleeping pill didn't work and he threw up at one point in time. They gave him an anti-nauseau shot about 4:15 and about 2 hours later, he threw up and said he felt better - so they gave him another shot then. When he finally woke up about 11:30 am and he took a sip of Water and then a sip of the blue apple juice, he got sick again. After that, he was able to drink down all the apple juice and take his medication without getting sick. He did have a terrible headache, so they gave him some medication for that and he is sleeping again. I imagine he will sleep most of the day since he didn't sleep so well last night. I am envious - he is able to sleep on either side without any pain -- I wasn't able to do that until about 2 weeks after I got home! I'll keep you posted in the event he isn't feeling up to doing so.

I met another gal today that is here for a revision tomorrow - she is new to VST and I can't remember her name. There is a guy, too, however, I don't know if he's on this site or not and I didn't meet him. Yolonda sent me into the xray room to entertain that gal while she hunted down someone to take the xray for her. She's deemed me "Social Director" in her absence ... LOL

Walked over to the pharmacy with Soon2BSkinny - she finally got everything taken off of her and was able to shower and dress and feels human again. She goes home tomorrow.

Roseyandmusic passed her last leak test and she goes home tomorrow too.

Well, that's all the news for now!

Wow, sounds like most everyone is doing well, thanks for the updates. They say the day after surgery is usually the worst, so hopefully Bearded will feel much better tomorrow.

Thanks Susan, I hope he is definitely feeling better tomorrow as we have to drive home - and if I do all the driving, it will take us longer than 6 hours as I don't tend to drive as fast as Bearded. However, if he's feeling bad, he'll sleep and I can drive at whatever speed I feel comfortable!

I'm sorry to hear that he took a turn for the worse. The photos showed him looking well. Guess he just overdid it the first day. Actually I was surprised to see him looking so well that quickly. Don't know what causes the nausea, but hope they got that under control. I'm a little concerned about developing stomach issues (nausea and such) as I don't have any acid or similar problems now, and don't want to develop any after surgery. That's why I wait to see how everyone does. Glad to hear that Rosey is doing well; hopefully she didn't have your DF's issues, or did she? Hope he's doing better soon.

Thanks for keeping us updated!

If he ever decides to wake up and stay awake for any length of time, I'll be able to find out. They did take out his IV today (left the stint) and he passed the blue dye test so that is a good thing.

Thanks for the thoughts!

I am doing well!! I am a little tired, drinking fluids, sleeping and all but other than that doing well!

They leave the stint in so in case something is needed intravenously they can do it quick....nothing else and it is not painful at all.

I have no engery so I am signing off. FOR NOW

Glad to hear you are feeling better Bob, I know you will feel better just being home. I know VA will take good care of you. I will talk to you both later tomorrow. Big hugs to you both.

/ I hope they take the stent out before you go home, right?

Yes, they will take it out tomorrow after the last leak test. Good thing they left it in as he needed to have more anti nauseau medicine, pain medicine and something for a fever - he is running a 100 fever. I ran a fever one night too - so am hoping it breaks and is gone in the morning.

Vegas and Bob, I had a ton of problems with nausea while I was at the hospital as well. All I wanted to do was sleep, and when they made me get up to walk, usually I ended up vomiting. So, I feel for Bob 100%. The good news is, you do get past it.

Daisy, go to Vegas' profile and you will find the album with the pictures there.

Thanks Susan. He is doing better today - he was up about every hour all night long, but didn't vomit, thank goodness. He is tired today and sore and wants the drainage bag out. He's antsy so I think he's feeling a bit better.

Soon2BSkinny and Roseyandmusic left this morning about 7:30 so am sure they'll be posting soon. Both looked good!

We're supposed to head home today sometime too - hoping we're able to as I am supposed to go to work tomorrow morning.

I can't wait til you get home from work. I sent you a pm too. I booked my flight. I hope you're really okay with this.

I really can't wait. It's been years since I have been anywhere besides Arizona. I really hope you and Bearded were not just kidding about letting a perfect stranger stay with you.

You're going to have to clue me in on what to bring as far as clothes go, etc. I am not sure what we will be doing.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
