My dear beautiful friend,

Always remember, you are losing the weight and have wonderful things happening to you. Ignorance on his part will never change and you are always going to have ignorant people around.

I am sorry that happen to you...it is very sad we have people like this.:thumbup1: This is not an excuse for their behavior; however, by his acting out like that, he's more about pointing out the things in others versus dealing with his "own stuff". It's not about you...it's about him. As a wonderful friend said to me long ago..."don't pick up his bag of rocks".

If by chance you see him again, have a wonderful statement ready for him and do not get angry...simply smile and say..."Nice. Thank you for your kindness and support." Don't let him know he can get to you....

Whiterice, I am so sorry. That would be infuriating. However, I agree with AJW. Down the way a dab you will be georgous and he will still be an ass. You can have a nice smirk about that every time you walk by his house. What a sence of satisfaction that will be. As you said too bad the kids were with you but now that you will have had time to think about it you will have "an appropriate reply" if the situation comes up again.

Oh, that is super. How fun it would be to say that. I might still have end with "asshole" under my breath. Well, maybe in a soft whisper. :thumbup1:

White Rice, I am so sorry to hear that someone would say something so hurtful to you and in front of your kids. So glad you did not go down to their level and yell back at them. Hold your head up high and know you are on your way to one healthy body.

It's a lot easier to lose the weight than to be IGNORANT. You WILL lose the weight, but I doubt if this kid will EVER lose his ignorance. Once you're at your goal (which won't be that long I'm sure) you won't even think about that dumb comment. Now, chin up....full speed ahead!!!!

Thank you all so much for the words of encouragement, suggestions, etc. I'm doing fine now. I was just so taken aback by someone being so blatantly unkind. I just haven't run into very many people like that in my lifetime. I guess I've been lucky.

I wanted to share the one thing that really put me back on track today and changed how I was feeling. I was driving the kids home from their haircuts and playing their Veggietales CD and I heard the song that goes, "God is bigger, bigger than the boogeyman. He's bigger than Godzilla or the monsters on TV. God is bigger, bigger than the boogeyman. He's watching out for you and me." How funny, that a kids song helped me put it all in perspective and see that that "punk" means NOTHING to me in the grand scheme of things. So why should I let him or what he said take up any space in my brain?

By the way, I saw him (I'm pretty sure it was him), a teenager, sitting on his driveway talking on his cellphone when I drove down the street. I tried to wave and smile at him, but he wasn't looking up at the time. :thumbup1:

WhiteRice,

Yes, God is bigger than the universe. (that means he is BIGGER than YOU and ME! (grin)

One day that kid will meet him and feel the pain of his own remarks. You are wonderful and strong, and I'll bet if you ever do stop and say hello to the kid, no matter what he says to you, you'll be able to just feel sorry for him and his immature attitude. I think what he said to you could also be used as a teachable moment for your own kids...am sure it hurt them too to hear his remark because they love you so much. They can learn how to love everyone no matter what their size, color, age, religion, social status, mental capacity, etc (even dorks like that kid), just like God loves everyone.

You're doing great, keep up the forward motion!!!

OK?.Here we go, first I would like to thank every one of you! You may ask why?

The reason is, I was a silent forum reader. Every time I had a problem or question I would run to the site for Q&A, from per diet to post op questions- 9-times out of 10 I could find the answers. I?m 29 days post op down 38lbs. I feel a lot better and now people are starting to wonder?lol J. **NOTE** If you are a silent reader I encourage you to join. Thanks to all?.. Oh btw Isopure Cookies and cream is undrinkable.

My surgeon also says it's a myth. He told me the body will digest whatever you put in it. So, I figure he is an expert in this area. If you find a Protein Drink w/35 gms, go for it.

But remember, calories count too. 1 gm of Protein = 4 calories. So a Protein Drink has 35 gms of Protein, and is over 140 calories, has extra calories from other stuff they added, we probably don't need. Anyway, that is what I was told.

Welcome to the silent reader!

The only Isopure I can drink is Artic Punch. The rest is just bad news.

29 days and 38 lbs WOW. Congrats!

Hey August Sleevers! So it's November, which means all of us are at least 2 months out from surgery. How's everyone doing??

I'm feeling really good. Down 40+ lbs. I have to say, my sleeve really feels normal now. I've only had one episode where I forgot myself and ate a slice of pizza too quickly. It had me feeling crappy the rest of the evening, but other than that I've not had any problems.

How's everyone else settling into life with their sleeve?

Hi Lisa,

Woohoo good for you down 40 pounds. Since surgery I've lost 34 plus I had lost 26 before surgery on my self-imposed pre-op diet, so down a total of 60 pounds altogether. Feeling good. I have not strayed off my pre-op diet which is easier to do since surgery (Medifast) so the weight has been coming steadily off. I've had weeks wear I was stuck at a number, but it eventually comes down. Stay strong and don't eat pizza, girlfriend!:)

AJW, you are doing terriffic! How do the medifast diets taste? Do they allow you to get in 70 gms Protein daily?

You'll be at target in no time the rate you are going!

Check out the Medifast website. The food is so-so tasting, so I'm not eating it for the taste. You eat 5 small meals of 110 cal. each and then you have your choice of a lean/green meal at night. You can have four meals before dinner, then dinner, then a snack before bedtime. Each meal is nutritionally identical with 11 gr. of Protein in each one. I supplement the noon (protein shake) meal with more protein power and a banana for Fiber. Following their plan 5 meals X 11 gr. protein each = 55 gr. PLUS what I add at lunch = 75 gr. approx. plus whatever is in the actual food you eat at night. I stick with chicken, fish and sometimes meat. It's plenty of protein and it's spread out over the day so you're never hungry. Works for me.

Hi WhiteRice! I have lost over 40lbs and loving it. I still cannot eat much, maybe a 1/2 of a taco or small Cereal box for Breakfast. food just does not seem to taste the same to me. I use to love eating and getting into the flavors on the food, but now it is like I do not want to eat anymore. The flavors are just not there anymore. I do not know why my taste buds would change. I use to love Salsa and chips and cheese now I cannot take the salsa anymore or cheese anymore :-(. I am getting smaller and clothes are starting to look better on me so that is great!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
