Have you ever noticed that your weight likes to plateau at a certain place? I've been up and down and up and down year after year trying diet after diet. Each time I end up in the 260's, my body has a hard time letting me out of it. LOL. I finally made it into the 250's and have made going below 250 my next short term goal. I LOVE when the MD balance scale heavy weight moves off the 250 spot. :-)

How is everyone else doing? Any magic scale numbers or plateaus?

There is typically a 50# plateau, I found the science behind it in an article I read then I lost the link. I'll look for it today and see what I can find.

I know this sounds crazy but when I would get stuck and the scale wouldn't move I'd carb load for one day. Then the scale would start moving. Problem is, when I start on carbs (certain kinds) I can't quit and I'd have to do the 5DPT to get off them. But, it did work.

I'm very happy to finally be off the plateau and losing steadily. I do very low fat, carbs from one fresh fruit a day and veggies, and Protein from poultry and fish. Protein is a challenge but I did finally find a Protein Bar I can tolerate... Atkins. It's 200 cal and 17 g of protein. I had the first one at work last night.

My desire is to lose as much weight as I can before the knees are replaced in Sept. I know I'll get daily workouts in rehab after the surgery but am looking forward to being able to do all the exercises post rehab that I can't do now.

Which Atkins bar do you like Elizabeth? There are quite a few of them that I like. I think they give me gas though. It seems like everything gives me gas.

Did you look for those marshallow mud pie bars with only 1g sugar alcohol -- they are absolutely delicious I'm telling you

I haven't been to Walmart since I got back from Arizona. I went to JC Penny and Ross to look for preemie sleepers for my new grand daughter.

I need to go to Walmart tomorrow. I have to get dog food. They are remodeling our Walmart and I've heard it's a big mess in there.

Gotta go to user CP and do something about this font!

Well make a list so you don't forget!

How is your new granddaughter doing?

She is doing great for only being 4 lbs 12 oz. She doesn't have any problems other than being tiny. She is nursing well and I think they are going home tomorrow.

I bet my Walmart won't have those. They seem to have a poor selection of Atkins bars. They used to have a good selection, but now there are so many kinds of bars out, Atkins seems to have lost some shelf space.

Yea, they give the shelf space to what makes them a better profit margin.

I have a mini goal, kind of, I am going to be going through the post op diet with my wife. I thought it would be easier for her, if I just drink the same Protein Water and progress through the stages with her. I only have 30lbs left to lose, so it will be interesting to see if I get a jump in weight loss while doing the same thing? Probably not, but at least she won't have to watch me eat food.

I don't see how you CAN'T lose Steve if you're following the same diet as your wife - it probably won't be as fast as she loses, however, I bet you lose. I'm 1 week out today and have lost 12 lbs.

My goal right now, being so newly-sleeved, is to keep the scale on the downward slide as long as I can.

That is such a kind thing to do for her and of course it benefits you but still, the post op regimine is not easy to follow.

I am sure you will lose Steve. Every time I got stuck on a plateau, I put myself back on the liquid diet and was always able to break through it that way.

I like the chocolate graham ones. They were the only ones they had in the grocery store.

Oh they didn't have those when I bought mine. So far my favorite is the Marshmallow Mudslide Pie (or something like that) ... so good to the point they could be addictive!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
