Has my port flipped?

Recommended Posts

I'm really sorry if this is the wrong place. This is my first post.

I was banded nearing 2 years ago in february. I have lost 60 pounds and have another 20 to go before I think I'll finally feel good about myself. I hadn't been keeping up with the fills and so for the past year I had been between 145 and 160. I've been able to maintain my weight at 145 since I recieved a fill 3 months ago and I plan on getting another in a month. Around the same time as my fill I noticed that there was a bit of discomfort in my port area (this was before the fill which made the fill really uncomfortable and I noticed the doctor had to do a lot of moving around to find the hole). I hadn't really noticed it before, possibly only when I sucked in and raised my arms in the air and even only a little but now I notice it 24/7. It hurts to move around too much, if I slouch it hits my ribs, if I stand up straight the skin stretches too much, and if I'm bloated it sticks out like a knot. This all started happening in just the past few months and at one time while laying on my stomach I felt a popping sensation and then it really stung pretty bad for a few days. I imagine this was one of the stiches ripping. I no longer lay on my stomach if I can help it. I had planned on going to the doctor but the pain subsided after a few days. i've now reached a tipping point because no matter what I do there is always discomfort.

I wanted to ask you guys if it sounded like my port had flipped. I know I can just go to the doctor but his clinic is a few hours from where I live and I wanted to get some opinions in the mean time to either clear my head or give me something more to worry about. :/

I've provided a photo as well. I am very bloated today and this is what I have to deal with.

Sometimes Ports protrude especially with continued weight loss..BUT..GO to see the Doctor, it doesn't matter how far away you are from them, the things that you have described don't sound normal. If they are, then won't you be happy and relieved that everything is fine and you can stop worrying ;)

Ports are nor supposed to flip under normal conditions, and if installed properly....they are attached to the abdominal wall (muscle) UNDER the layers of fat....as you loose the fat, it will become more exposed...I have no belly fat at all, and my port sticks out 5 times more than yours does because it is right there under the layers of skin...no fat. I can palpate it and feel every single nook and cranny....

Hi there. I wanted to comment because although people say it is uncommon. I did in fact have a port that flipped over. The doc said to me that it occurs when ur body doesn't produce enough scar tissue surrounding the port to hold it in place. He spent about 20 mins poking around trying to gain access and finally got it eventually. But did explain that it is important to get it addresses quite urgently as if anything was to happen to me medically and he wasn't around to do an emergency unfill it could be quite dangerous as most would not know the correct angle to remove Fluid.< /p>

He booked me back in for surgery within 2 weeks and replaced my port to the older style and stitched it to the muscle really well. I haven't had port problems since.

But my suggestion to u is to go back and have a chat to them. At least for ur own safety if u feel like something isn't right

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
