I am starting my journey

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone my name is Vicki. I am about to start a new phrase in my life. I am 52 yrs old and a mother of two and grandmother of two. I have been fat all of my life. I was shy when I was in grade school. I had one true best friend since 4th grade. I think that is because we have so much in common. I almost lost her a few times because of medical reasons but because of God's grace and mercy my rock is still here. So I have decided to go on this journey because I am tried of taking all meds I am on, being too tried to play with my grandkids, and just being fat in general. I want to be more mobile.

Welcome! I'm going to be 52 soon, too -- have just one child, a senior in high school. I'm with you on wanting more mobility -- can't wait to shed this extra baggage and feel better about myself. I have been on this forum a few months now while going through the hoops at the hospital where I will be banded. I have learned so much here -- way more than the doctors can provide as there is so much input from people who are at various stages. It's a warm, informed group all in all -- very compassionate as all have walked in the same shoes. You'll be chasing around those grand-kids before you know it. Best wishes.....

Vicki- I was banded 8-23-13. I am now at the third stage after banding...mushies. I too decided to go on this journey because of health reasons. 33 pills a day ...about 10 different conditions or chronic diseases that prevented me from losing but not from gaining. Right now I am eating soft foods drinking lots of liquids and what's needed at this stage. Out of the 24 different rx's that I take I have already been able to get off 7. But as I lose I'm sure more will follow. So you go girl...and I am 63. Two grown daughters and six adorable, wonderful g-kids. Iam losing for health reasons but weight loss is definitely a great side effect. Good luck on your journey!!

I want to thank everyone who has posted something to me. It means so much to me to know how much support for me is out there. I wish everyone out there no matter where you are in this journey my best wishes. Yesterday I did my psych evaluation and did my UGI. I am glad nobody told me what would happen with the UGI test because I did not really like it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
