I am being banded on 8-23-13. I have some butterflies. I know I can do this but I still have so many questions. I know I should call my doctor and probably will next week. I am so concerned if I cough or grunt too hard - Constipation that it might slip. I am worried that the silliest things will make it not work. I'm just being paranoid. So how goes the pre op diet? I have tea, coffee, broth crystal light to have only for 2 weeks and 3 days. I weigh 210 but my bmi is 37.2. So no real problems with surgery although I take at this time is 33 pills a day 23 different rx's. That put the doctor off. I had to get a clearance from 5 of my doctors before he would even consider me. Then my insurance turned me down because I hadn't been medically supervised counting calories. I was flabbergasted. I appealed and got a go ahead for surgery. They took my words to heart. The winning sentence I believe turned it was I have diabetes and all that entails, heart disease, high bp high choles. high triglyc. bipolar disorder fibromylgia and a host of other conditions and you're turning me down because I didn't count calories. hopefully everything will go smoothly as it possibly can. I plan on sticking to this. I have to. Not doing it isn't an option. I hope you all have a good banding experience pre and post and hope to be back here soon.Donna

Donna: I'm scheduled for my band on August 12 and I've had some of the same concerns about coughing, the band slipping or getting stuck etc. It's still not enough to cause me to put it off though. I feel like this is probably the best decision I've ever made. Even cried when I found out my date! Glad to hear you're finally enroute to your date as well. You may even see some resolution to your current health challenges once you have the surgery. Good luck!

my band day is 8-23-13. I am starting my preop diet on 8-8-13. I have a lot of questions and paranoid thinking, but otherwise committed to this procedure. Keep up the good thoughts and positive feedbacks. for me there are no other options for me. I have too many diseases and chronic conditions because of my weight. I do have a lot of positive feedbacks from my mind at this time. Wait until preop diet. Then the thinking might become as little foggy. Then is when I need more reinforcements. I am happy I can come here. Kudos to all. Donna

I started my preop on Thursday, as I got my approval on Wednesday. I go to the hospital and see my doctor on Wednesday 31. I will be done with 2 week preop on Wednesday August 7th, so my surgery could be any day after that. I will know on July 31. I am so ready! The thing I dread is the cut in the navel, as I had that on my gall bladder surgery, and it stayed so sore. I can feel scar tissue now where the cut was made.

My preop diet consist of 3 slim fast shakes per day, and a salad of lettuce and tomatoes with the supper shake. It is very hard to cook for my husband and not eat, but I am doing it! I am ready for my new life as a smaller lady!

I believe the length of your pre op diet depends on your bmi. Mine is 3 weeks because my bmi is high. The whole point is to shrink the liver a lower bmi would mean less time needed to shrink it.

My pre op diet starts this Wednesday and I am haunch trouble sleeping. I keep thinking I won't be able to keep the diet. I need support can you guys help me please.

I think you just need to take each day at a time and try not to freak out :) We are all doing this because we need to lose weight to be healthier, happier versions of ourselves. I have no doubt giving up chocolate for me is going to be a killer but if it means my surgeon can operate on me more safely its a small price to pay.

We are all here to help each other so when your feeling hungry redirect and come on here and tell us about it!

One week to go... I can't believe after waiting for so long, I am only 7 days away from getting banded!! Three weeks of pre-op are done and dusted and I'm now 22 pounds lighter. I met with the anesthetist today and he talked me through what to expect on the day. Feeling more confident that everything will go well and that August 6th will be a life changing day :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
