How much weight do they expect you to lose prior to surgery? I just started my 6 months of nutritional evaluations. I was a little worried about this. Thoughts?

Some docs require a preop diet others not. Also it's patient specific. I didn't have to go on one but my husband had to do the 2 week liquid diet. Just depends on your start weight and how likely you have fatty liver. Consider it a detox opposed to a weight loss, trying to slim down that liver as much as possible. That can't be quantified through a scale. Even if your doctor says no diet is necessary, try to get yourself ready by making nutritious choices. If you are put on a diet, try not to focus on the #'s on the scale as much as being compliant (that's hard enough)

The pre-op diet was to reduce fatty liver I was told. There was no specific weight loss requirement but I did lose 10 lbs on my pre-op liquid diet.< /p>

I've heard the same as above. I'm due for surgery in a 3 weeks and start my liquid diet next week. My friend has had the surgery along with her mom. She had to do a 2 week liquid while her mom only had to do a few days before surgery. Her mom only lost a few pounds but it was more about detoxing her self. Morgan my friend lost 23 pouns during her liquid diet of two weeks which helped her shrink her liver. So like a few others said, don't stress too much over the numbers, worry more about taking the next 6 months and if you do have a pre op diet, to better your self and make better decisions! Best Wishes and congrats on sarting your journey! :D

I was told I just couldn't gain any weight over the 4 months I met with the nutritionist leading up to insurance approval.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
