Insurance doesn't cover - Disapointed. Any other options?

Recommended Posts

I have my consultation appointment tomorrow - however, before going I thought I'd do some reasrch to find out if my insurance covers WLS. I spoke to my HR personel location in another state, she said it's excluded from our insurance & our plan does not cover ANY WLS....ugh *sigh*.....I guess I will still go to the consultation appointment tomorrow, but I just feel so down & upset now. I really had my hopes up. They told me over the phone another option would be care credit. But unfortunately my husband and I have enough debt & credit out that we wouldn't be able to get a loan for that amount. Does anyone have any other ides, or feedback that could help me in getting the surgery I want/need?!

Thanks,

Heather

Is there a way to switch health insurance? Even if it is for one year? With the Obama care coming up you should be able to go out and shop for new health insurance at more affordable cost at the insurance exchanges.

I know that this is not an immediate help, but it is doable, I think.

Same thing happened to me. I had to change insurance. I would talk to your hr and see what your options are.

are you able to do self pay?

Also, with the self pay, if there is any complication you will have to cover that, too...

If the change of insurance isn't an option you could try United Medical Credit http://www.unitedmedicalcredit.com/. I fought my insurance for 6 months before I gave up and went with self pay. United were helpful and approved us within 24 hrs. I was lucky enough to get some extra hrs at work to pay for it so it's onward and upward! Good luck to you and don't give up on your insurance yet.

I'm thinking of using this company, but got confused because it says "your provider will choose the terms/interest rate" etc...So do they pay your doctor and then you pay back, or do you have to pre-pay before surgery?

Thanks!

I was reading a post from another person whose insurance didn't cover wls and she dropped her policy at work and got an individual policy thru Blue Cross Blue Shield and as there is no longer a pre existing clause with them, she was approved within a month. Just an FYI.

I was self pay and I shopped around and was able to get financed - I felt like it was a necessity because I was morbidly obese and I was beginning to have health problems. Don't give up - shop around - if you have to change health insurances do that or shop around for the surgery and payment plans. I wish you the best!

My only advise is to CHOSE WISELY..if you don't have insurance coverage and go self pay you will still have aftercare to pay for Dr's appt. fills appt. and god forbid any complications than you have to pay for that as well..and removal being the worst complication of them all :(

good luck

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
