Still wearing the same size in clothes

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 1/2 months post-op and have lost close to 40lbs, but I'm still wearing the same size. If thats possible. Granted they fit a little loser but it's still the same size. I feel good about the weight loss, but discouraged clothing. I know that I'm doing everything right, but I feel that I should be seeing better results. A little encouragement is needed right about now, please HELP.

Is it the type of clothes your wearing, like stretchy material? I had some clothes that fitted for a fair while, especially dresses. It was clothes like jeans, fitted shirts and shorts that I was able to fit into smaller sizes that really helped me feel like I was losing weight.

Don't worry. The smaller you get the faster the sizes will change. I was 253 pounds when I started and I too lost probably 30 pounds before I changed sizes but then every 10-15 pounds or so I would go down in size. If you think about it the larger you are, the more area the weight is coming off, if that makes sense. just keep on working on that loss and you will see it in your sizes soon!

Did you try on smaller clothes? I thought I was still fitting into my clothes. They were baggy but not falling down. But then my husband was shopping and picked up new jeans for me 2 sizes smaller. I thought oh good, these will motivate me to keep losing. I put them on just so I would be able to compare, thinking I wont get them over my hips or be able to zip them- and they fit!!!! I didn't realize I was ready to go down sizes until I actually tried on a tighter size.

40 pounds is an amazing accomplishment!!! I have been in the same size closing for many years even though my weight has gone up and up and up probably about 50 pounds. The smaller size will happen. Everyone's body shape is different so where we cary our extra weight varries.

I agree with 4sweeties, try a smaller size. You might be surprised and feel good about your losses!

Winkie80 is exactly right. You are losing, just not as much in the areas that affect the size clothing you wear. Do not be discouraged! You will get there! 40 pounds is incredible--pat yourself on the back!! Wow. The smaller clothes will come.

Don't be discouraged. I went down one size my first 40 lbs. but then I went down two sizes while losing the next 25. It will happen for you too.

It takes out minds a little longer to catch up as well. I am still wearing clothes that I think still fit. And then someone says...that shirt is too big for you are swimming in those pants. I have to recheck it...put a smaller size on and WOW ...the smaller size really does fit. Don't be so hard on yourself......it's a process....physically and mentally.

I don't know how big you are but I noticed that in the larger sizes, I had to lose much more weight to change sizes-maybe 30 pounds or something to go down. But at smaller sizes the size changes with like 10 pounds lost. I've heard other people say the same thing.

Just be patient. It will happen.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
