HOT MESS here! Pre-op craziness.

Recommended Posts

My surgery is on June 28 and I am all sorts of stuff. By stuff I mean nervous, anxious, scared, on edge, excited, and perhaps even a tad depressed.

I feel like what some might call a "hot mess".

One moment I am excited and enthusiastic and read Cosmo and dream of myself as the skinny chick in the cool clothes.

Then the next I am down again, wondering how I will cope and if I will fail.

I dress out at 314 lbs and that just doesn't feel good any more. Heck, it NEVER felt good.

I believe my worst fear is the surgery itself. My family and friends have all reassured me I will not die on the operating table.

Anyone have any words of wisdom to soothe me here?

I would REALLY appreciate it.

Everything you are feeling is totally normal. Congratulations for taking this step to become healthier. I am a little more than 5 1/2 months banded so I can tell you that it will take a while for you to incorporate the band and all it entails into your life. But when you do, you'll be golden. I can't say much about fills as I've not had any but most folks on this forum say that you will need a number of them to find your sweet spot.

I have mobility issues so I cannot exercise as I'd like but I have done as much as I can in that I go to the pool three times a week to swim and exercise and I've tried mightily to change my attitude and for now, it's good. I struggle as many do to make good choices but most of the time I do and I've dropped a little over 67 lbs so far .

Aside from the arthritis issues, I feel so much better. I have more stamina, and with less bulk, I can move better. I can fit into a plane seat again and into a theater seat comfortably. People don't look horrified at me if I move to sit next to them on the train or bus. Oh what a relief that is. It even feels good to focus on chatting at dinner rather than focusing on the food in front of me. It's also wonderful to have found out how good fish is, and well made veggies instead of heavy fat laden foods.

Good luck with your surgery...you'll do great!

All these feelings are normal. I had them too. The emotional rollercoaster will continue after surgery. I agree with the above...the actual surgery was the easy part. Good luck...congrats!

First welcome and congrats! Everything you are feeling is normal. I felt all of those up to the minute I fell asleep on the operating table.

I just got banded today and most of all those feelings are gone now. The worst part so far was the wait leading up to the surgery.

I don't have any wisdom to share on life being banded yet, but this is a great place. The people here are supportive and helpful.

What you are feeling is totally normal. Like everyone else said, the surgery is very easy - they will put an iv in, you will go to sleep, and then you will wake up banded. One of the best decisions i have made. The weight loss community on this site, Facebook, and youtube are amazing - i have made some great friends thru these resources. Good luck, you will do great!

I am scheduled July 1. I very much understand the "hot mess" feeling! Right now my biggest issues is fear something will go wrong during the procedure.....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
