6yrs Banded - Chest Pain

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Last Sunday I experienced a sharp pain in my chest. I suspect its band related because I've been to the ER twice and EKGs are normal and I have no other symptoms of heart problems...vitals all great etc. I was originally banded 12/05/06 in NE. I moved to FL 3yrs ago and have had a terrible time finding a lapband DR that would take me, if they did it would cost $400 out of pocket, which I just don't have. I have, however, made an appt with my Dr that installed the lapband since I will be visiting NE on vacation. With all that said I have 10 more days to wait until I find out whats going on and this is driving me to anxiety/panic attacks. Has any vet had this issue before? It feels like short sharp pinching pains, shortly after I hear/feel a lot of gurling noises like I did after my band surgery. The nurse that scheduled my appt tried to reassure me that if I was not throwing up and not having problems getting food down then I will most likely be ok until the appointment. I have read up a bit on this and wonder if it could be gas related?? I recently have had issues with gas/bloating and have been put on a high Fiber diet. Anyone else experience this? I have limited myself to very soft food and liquids until I know for sure. Sorry for the long post, but any input is welcome.

Thanks,

Annette

Sorry I am newer to this and so no real words of wisdom. But I can tell you a high fiber diet will increase gas! If the increase in fiber is new, maybe back off a little and go slower at increasing it to see how your body handles it and let it adjust to the change slower. Hang in there.

Hi All,

Last Sunday I experienced a sharp pain in my chest. I suspect its band related because I've been to the ER twice and EKGs are normal and I have no other symptoms of heart problems...vitals all great etc... Whew, that's a relief.. I was originally banded 12/05/06 in NE. I moved to FL 3yrs ago and have had a terrible time finding a lapband DR that would take me, :(unfortuanely this is very common if they did it would cost $400 out of pocket, which I just don't have. I have, however, made an appt with my Dr that installed the lapband since I will be visiting NE on vacation. With all that said I have 10 more days to wait until I find out whats going on and this is driving me to anxiety/panic attacks. Completely understandable..Has any vet had this issue before? It feels like short sharp pinching pains, shortly after I hear/feel a lot of gurling noises like I did after my band surgery. The nurse that scheduled my appt tried to reassure me that if I was not throwing up and not having problems getting food down then I will most likely be ok until the appointment. I have read up a bit on this and wonder if it could be gas related?? Very possible...BUT...it can also be a pouch enlargement, or erosion and I'm NOT saying this to scare you because it might also be something unrelated. LOOK at my Signature line and click on LB complications and see if any of this "might" apply. FYI: most complications are diagnosed with Fluroscopy,Endoscopy, Upper GI's, just so that you are aware.

I hope you get resolution SOON!!

Do you still have your gallbladder? Bloating, although the sharp pinching pain sounds a little different, bloating and gas definintely go along with misbehaving gallbladders and I guess any pain in the area could be your gallbladder too.

I posted about a similar situation a couple of weeks ago. I'm not at all a lapband veteran (I'm 8 weeks postop) but a couple of weeks ago I was having stabbing pains in the sternum. Like spasms, but the pain was fleeting. It seemed to be unrelated to a meal as it would occur several hours after. My band at the time was unfilled, and my surgeon suspected that there was some irritation going on as the band was kind of moving as it had not yet been filled. (I'm not sure I agree with his explanation because, like you, it seemed to be gas/bowel related.)

Anyway, he prescribed Nexium and it went away promptly.

I hope you find whatever it is that is causes your pain. It is indeed scary; I, too, thought they were symptoms of a heart attack.

It's har dto determon what any pains are caused from without checking in a doctor's office. Could be very mild irratation.

Small slip with complete unfill

Oh, that's a relief. So maybe the movement (the slip) was provoking irritation. I'm glad they caught it before it got worse.

I hope the unfill resolves it, and you can stay strong while this clears up!

I have been having chest pains on and off (spams) since oct 2012 3 no this after I was banded my family doctor doesn't help at all he keep giving me perceptions for renatadine, nexium, tectra etc. Ive even had three defills since I got my band. it wasnt until this past weekend that I finally had something done. It was the worst spasms I've had lasted almost 24 hours and full force pain. I finally managed to get Into the car so my husband could take me to the hospital. They did chest X-rays and and gave me morphine for the pain. The emerg doctor said he thinks I have gallbladder stones. I had an ultrasound today and I hopefully will have results this Friday. I don't want to have to get my band out but I can't take this pain any longer either.

I hope things work out better for you and you get some answers soon!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
